Yuck. Is it humid, too?

Heavens no, humidity is very rare. I think it's under 25% in the SF Bay area along with the 95+ temperatures.

The only time coastal California gets heat and humidity is from the occasional effect of a tropical storm coming up from the south. That's usually restricted to SoCal and it's rare to last for more than a week or two each year. We don't get such weather in the Bay Area. Low humidity (other than when it's foggy, of course) is the rule, especially for warm weather.

Only 8% humidity today on the Orange County coast as the Santa Ana winds are blowing. Our humidity is usually 70%+, but these temperatures are brutal. It hit 91 degrees F. here today. I have the floor fans going and the shades pulled down to block the sun. Luckily, I live in a two-story hillside house, so the downstairs stays about 10 degrees cooler than the upstairs which helps a bit. Tonight, I'll open everything up and get the house cooled down ready for another hot day tomorrow.

Love it. 93 deg here in So Oregon and calm. Our house was 79 degrees at 9 or 10 pm last night.....very unusual to have such warm evenings.

Only 10 - 12% humidity here. And now there is a new fire, about 8 miles away from us.

yikes! I can't imagine s,l,o. being that hot...bet there aren't many tourists doing hurst castle in those temps...we used to live in san diego, but moved to mi in 1988...we had a wave of hot but rarely over 100...I feel for the farmers in the central valley growing area...

Central valley must be very toasty. Sorry to hear about the fire; 8 miles is quite close to you, caflower. Just what everyone fears in this weather, fire. I hope they can get it under control fast.

I was in OC yesterday. The hills were brown and dry, just ripe to burn.

That's hot!

No hot weather here today (SE Wisc). It has cooled and today, it did not warm up. Was breeezy all day with max temp about 60F. Its getting chilly this evening. We're going to have chilly fall night.

The Central Valley spends the summer months in the 95-100+ range, that's
normal for them. That would include lindsey_ca who I think lives near
Sacramento. Coastal areas are having weather today more typical of the
inland valleys.

The fire danger is so scary when it's dry, hot and windy. I've only had one voluntary evacuation since I've lived here and the city cleared a lot of dead foliage from hillsides this spring so my fingers are crossed that we don't have a fire. Caflowerlover, I hope the wind blows the Loma Prieta smoke away from you. It's miserable to have to close up the house completely to avoid smoke and ash when the temperatures are soaring.

My hope is that the temps return to normal and the fires are extinguished.

It was hot here in coastal south OC today too. My car thermometer registered 99 when I was running errands about 5pm. At 8pm, my kitchen window thermometer read 89. Thank goodness we put in AC many years ago.
