How do you cook your turkey?
Comments (24)Just me, one dog, and seven cats. The bird will be first done on a Weber grill. Charcoal with some hickory wood... indirect heat. Wings for snacks, breast meat for sandwiches, and the rest with carcass will be boiled for chili meat. Dolly dog gets all the skin unless I nibble some extra crispy parts. Cats get a bit of lean meat because they are household members. Boiled clean bones will go out to the garden where Mr. Possum will munch them down. Chili meat will be cut half and half with beef... round roast. Enough for about four pots of chili so most will get bagged and frozen for later. I have a 12 quart chili pot so it takes a couple pounds of meat for a batch. Work gives me this turkey every year. I like boiling the carcass because it uses the bird down to the last bit. My oldest sister is doing T-day and Grandma is doing T-day part two. Making chili out of most of my turkey is a fitting way to eat it up. : ) lyra...See MoreWhat temperature do you set the thermostat for your pet
Comments (28)On June 29, 2012 we had a Derecho blow through. My power was off for 4 days because of the destruction in & around my area. Everyday was in the 90's outside and my house was SO darn hot. Luckilly the basement was cool so the dogs & I lived down there for those 4 days. Although when I left the house, the dogs would still come up to the main level & sleep on the couch, which was their normal routine. Even though it was 92 degrees on that level. They could have went back down to the basement to cool off, but I doubt they did. Moral of the story, they had plenty of water & knew the basement was cooler & a bed was down there if they became too uncomfortable. But I think they toughed it out. Now, under normal circumstances, I don't change my thermostat for the dogs when I leave the house. Since I'm on disability, I'm never gone long enough to gain any financial reward for increasing or decreasing the temperatures by a couple degrees, although I'm sure the dogs could care less either way....See MoreYour favorite method of cooking turkey breast?
Comments (20)Whether bone in or boneless, I cook it the same way. Shove a ton of herbed butter under the skin(I like sage, chives and thyme for a turkey),heavily season the skin with salt and pepper, and roast that sucker. I have long wanted to try Ina Gartens turkey roulade(minus the fruit) but finding a whole, boneless skin on turkey breast has proved almost impossible around here. And I couldn't debone one myself, it would be shredded......See MoreWhat do you cook when you're bored?
Comments (17)The only place I can cook is home, and I never get bored at home because it's the only place I can do whatever wish. I get bored waiting for the bus but I can"t cook at the bus stop. If I get dejected at home and need to pick myself up I do something that would deject me anyway. The logic is that if I,m already in a bad mood I might as well do unpleasant tasks like sorting and filing documents or cleaning, which is necessary but boring. Sort of fight fire with fire. It works for me. Once I,m through with whatever burdensome task I feel better. I,d never cook when in a bad mood. Cooking is fun....See More- 9 years ago
