I want a balanced white that is clean without being stark. Maybe like SW Pure White?

Also I realize now that my wording was a bit vague - I'm looking to color-match the cabinets so I can paint a board to hold my other selections up to. I'm not sure that I can get a sample door from the manufacturer.

You should be able to get not a sample door but a sample block.

You want the trim to match the cabinetry? Unless you get can the exact color the cabinet manufacturer uses, it is going to be tough, and close colors look worse together than do contrasting. IMO, if it is a gray (really, black) used white, so cool, I would pick a cool white (blue or black based).

I would think they'd at least allow you to borrow a door which you could take to a paint store and have them color match it there for you. Or you can buy a fan deck of colors to bring to the kitchen store and do a color match there from the deck.

Of course, your actual cabinet color may vary some from the store sample.

We did run into a store that refused to let us borrow a sample so we didn't do business with them. They were local and I even offered to stay as hostage while GF went home, 10 min away to take a look. I mean what do they think customer service is anyway?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll stick with a crisp cool white for trim in the house, and won't worry about coordinating with cabinets. I'll see what I can do about getting a fan deck, if I can't get a door/block.
