Do you need roof vents on new roof???
Comments (4)raee and others I don't agree.. why?? in 18yrs our power roof vent fan...runs just about all the time from mid april to mid october.. yes just passed sunup to after sun down..daily we have ridge vents and soffit vents(100%)..all installed when the house was built.. the powered vent fan was at my request from the builder..its set at 115F.. so soffit/ridge vents don't work as claimed..the build thought it was a dumb idea! please provide at least one research document from a non ridge vent maker to backup your claim..fyi I have looked into this matter and have found none! soffit vents don't help! ridge vents don't either! more insulation in the attic helped more! think i'm joking.. we installed reflextex($500) insulation on the roof rafters to help the ridge vents.. yet the fan still runs..even when it 75 outside..no I haven't change its temp setting to 15yrs.. so..back your claim with facts..i'd like to see them..prove me wrong.. -dkenny...See MoreNeed ideas for our Dutch colonial...new roof line?
Comments (11)The roof to the right of the main house looks like a barn. I'd change that to make it look like the main house. The gable addition you have suggested for the front makes things worse. If adding a detached garage, I would keep the roofs the same. The more elements you add that are different, imo make things worse. When I look at the house, my initial reaction is of the far right side. It just looks off....See MoreNew roof. Need color for trim, guttering, patio. New front door soon.
Comments (2)Is the new roof on already? If you are going to be replacing it and want suggestions, you should narrow down your choices to two or three and post pictures of the samples. There are too many brands for us to be making suggestions about roofing. We don't know what's available to you and what your price range is. Another thing that would help you get more comments is posting a closer up picture of the brick. Not one foot away, but 5-10 feet away in good light. What is the question exactly about the patio and where is it? Post a picture of it or where you are considering putting it....See MoreNeed ideas and help: New build "fairytale" roof issues?
Comments (18)@Mark Bischak .Thank you so much for your very helpful comment. This is the first new idea I've seen in 2 months. Agree about the framing crew... it's one of the first questions we asked when interviewing builders. Thankfully, most builders found this roof plan to be very simple compared to the homes in our area of this size. We didn't do these radiused rooflines in our area of California, but they are thankfully very common here, so they have some experience with the swoop sections. I've heard nightmares from so many folks (no matter the style of home), but in all our years of doing this, we've had (in the end) very good experiences overall. If you find the right people at the start, almost anything can be solved. But you may be right about this one. It's not a standard farmhouse box. But it is mostly one story. In my experience that makes changes in the field a little easier. Always some risk involved. PS You should have seen the eyebrow windows and dormers in the original design. :) .That would have been complicated....See Moreklem1
