That looks so beautiful! Hard to tell about the grout but the Chateau (and the first one, too) looks pinky on my monitor in the first pic, but better in the others. I'd love the finished bs if the grout was about the same depth of color as the spaces in the groutless tile (in the far shots), which looks to me more like the sample not in the line-up but the one on the counter to the right of the line-up. Or in the pics other than the first one, it might be the far left sample.

Oly- that one over to the right is driftwood- a bit too grey. But I totally get what you mean about the depth of colour on the non grouted tile!

Not sure if you can really see but the edges of the tile have a very creamy/beigey but not beige edge. It's definitely not grey so grey looks weird with the tile, I think because it's so warm.

You definitely need a way to coordinate with the counter. When you look from afar, what is the overall color of the counter read? For me, it reads more in the brown family than the gray.

I'm thinking the Chateau as well.

I have seen a purple undertone in taupe tiles posted on the kitchen forum, so that may be what Oly is seeing in the grout.

During your long tile search, you gave up on matching tile to the counter and instead matched it to the cabinets. If you continue with that idea, maybe you'd want to match the grout to the tile, ignoring the colors in the counter.

Maybe May, maybe. I want it to tie into the counter and melt the cab and counter together...how did that sound? LOL.

Taupe is hard. The Chateau looks just darker than the Oyster grey. And I have Oyster grey on my floors in the front and back entrance and powder room. And now will be DS's bathroom (yes went with tile mayflowers!)

I see zero purple in Chateau...but. He is coming with Oyster Grey tomorrow for DS's floor. I will ask for Chateau (depending on how it looks in the dark this evening) and if something goes horribly wrong we will have Oyster grey as a back up (the one on the left, the lightest one).

And eld6161, colour when looking at the counter is brown.

Nice Backsplash tile, love the play of light on the irregular surface. The darker the grout, the busier it will look. Try taping (scotch tape) the grout sample up between tiles on the wall to visualize depth of color. Don't tape them up next to each other. Do you like the busy look without grout? Usually, lighter grout will be a calmer look, but the Chateau might pull the counter top into the mix more. But only you can tell how the colors appear in real life. Congratulations on your beautiful kitchen!

Thanks! So I had Chateau and 2 greys next to the tile. Dh just picked Chateau.

I have a couple more choices I'll have him look at. Nothing too dark, but now that it's dark it does look nice with the shadows of the empty grout lines/ shadows.

Now in different light Chateau might look purple. Eep.

I think I agree (as usual with Mayflowers) Maybe more of a light tan/ off white? So, none of your samples.

I think that Lily'smom makes a good point. Although a dark grout would give the same look that you are seeing now. And to me, they look pretty uniform

I think the original thought was to make a connection between the backsplash and the counter since it was so difficult to find a tile that blended with the counter.

But, now that it is up, and looks good, I am wondering if you can just to something lighter?

It really is a matter of what you like! My DD did her grout in a light platinum to give her white tiles a bit more definition.

Under the hood light chateau has the potential for purple. Every other light it's fine. Daylight, kitchen light, ucl. I think Chateau might be the one.

And done. Tile guy will pick it up in the am. If it's horrible he'll have the other lighter one. It's just grout. It will be fine.

Watch out for the grout lines looking crooked like Lily'smom mentioned. Might be too much variation of thick and thin, but maybe not since they're spaced close together.

Mayflowers, don youth think it will look like how it looks now? Or the grout be bring out the unevenness more.

i'm personally not seeing it as too uneven when looking at the edges of the tile.
