Is this right - uneven backsplash - tile gurus HELP!!
Comments (13)An old post for sure, but for future reference for anyone that cares: A low-angle, "raking" light like that is what I use when inspecting walls after the drywall is up. It shows all flaws so things can be repaired as needed prior to paint. Not a solution to the tile problem, but a bandaid to minimize the shadowing... That looks like a surface-mounted florescent light. the light is installed where the backsplash meets the ceiling. If the light was moved "forward" so it's at the intersection of the ceiling and the back side of the arched transom, it'll do two things; minimize the shadowing caused by the tile lippage, and it'll take away the "glare" of the light being directly in the line-of-sight of the viewer's eye, like it is in the small inset photo. If there is tile on the wall behind the light, moving the light could be fairly simple. If the light can't be moved for whatever reason, another one could still be added on the back side of the arched transom....See MoreGrout color for backsplash...Butter Cream? Help please!
Comments (9)Don't go by the color chart at Loews. I made that mistake once! HD had a better in store display, it was a large board with dried grout in grooves of the different colors. That was the best indication and worked out great. If you want the Lacrete, buy a small amount grout use on excess or ruined tiles on a board or concrete block, then let it dry. I've noticed the lacrites dry brighter and lighter than the color chart....See MoreBacksplash grout color selection...really need opinions
Comments (8)If you do sample boards, be sure to let it dry, at least overnight, maybe another day. The grout lightens as it dries. Also, make sure to use the same type (sanded/unsanded) as you plan to use in the installation. The color can vary quite a bit between the two types. We used the same color of both types on a backsplash and a floor, and the color was not really the same. We installed the tile then decided on the grout. We liked the look of the lines between the tiles, so we went with slightly darker grout to show the pattern more. If you would rather have the pattern blend in, pick one closer to your tile color. Don't worry, you'll get through it. :)...See MorePlease help identify this Grout Color for White Subway Tile Backsplash
