Wanted: Peter Pepper Seeds
Comments (4)Sunnydove, Where in 8b are you? Would you happen to have any Pride of Barbados seeds left? I don't have any pepper seeds, but I do have white rain lily, Candlestick Bush, Flowering Senna, "Apple Blossom" amaryllis, and others if you'll email me. Xtal...See MoreHappy Birthday Mr. Peter Ruh
Comments (5)What a great story! It's good to be reminded from time to time why we garden, too. We use to have one of the older wiser old school gardeners hereabouts. He ran a garden shop all his life. You could haul a problem specimen in anytime and he was thrilled to tackle the question. A few years back, old Barney folded up his tent and went Home. . . I sure miss that all that wisdom....See MorePeter Ruh - Anyone Growing This One?
Comments (7)Hi, I have grown "Peter Ruh'for some time. One of the first acquisitions. It will perform best in lots of morning sun followed by bright light. The leaves will appear tranluscent w/ many colors appearing in layers. The coloring should overlap w/o discrete margins. In the right light, it will appear somewhat streaked. The colors in your plant now, are just the beginning, given the right amount of light. Consider placing it w/ 'Paul's Glory', 'Wheaton Blue' and 'Chesterland Gold'. You could skip 'Paul's Glory' if it competes to much for the "spotlight". However, the others will bring out the best qualities in Pete. Pete will also be the shorter and flatter of the plants listed. So, forefront. You may have "enticed" yourself into a "new" little garden of these cultivars, In which, you could get a few of Paul in there w/o distraction from the "spotlight". If you had a tree or structure of some sort you could put three of Paul, one Chester and a part of Pete on the south. On the north... two Wheaton's, one Chester, two Paul's and your biggest left over half of Ruh. Paul and Ruh will appear as totally different plants from north to the south exposure. All you have to do is walk around the tree to see them in a different "face". Later, Rick...See MoreHosta Broad Band or Hosta Broadband?
Comments (17)Ken and others Yes, I have been by Gus's place in Livonia with my mother years ago but did not go in for a visit. Did not meet Gus in any hosta meetings or at my mother's garden as I don't remember him being active in the small circle of local hosta people at the time. Just a note for those interested in saving the date, I have been invited by the Metro Detroit Hosta Society to speak next Feb 22, 2016 in Birmingham MI. The meeting is at 7 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham, 1589 W. Maple Rd. Birmingham MI Title will be "Pauline Banyai: The Hosta Lady - Revisited." Plan to show some of the video of my mother in her last years(the same one I have used at the Hosta College) and also bring an update on Gold Standard and its progeny. Bruce...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
