New blog on Vintage postcard
Comments (2)I will check your Blog out for sure. This week I came into possession of 2 albums of vintage postcards with the majority dating between the years 1903 and 1915 and some later. Some of the cards are comical, some sad, a few birthday cards, many cards to and from England, New Jersey, Detroit, Niagara Falls, 3 are from Marseille (pen and ink) a couple from Chicago, India, a few English military portrait cards from WW1. There are also cards featuring British Entertainers from the late 1890's My favourite card is a Leap Year Card and a Child's Prayer for a child who has lost their Mother. The cards belonged to my Dad's parents and his Mother wrote many of the cards when she was a young girl to her Sisters and friends and her parents when away at school in England. Post card collecting was even mentioned on a few of the cards. Unfortunately most on most of the cards the stamps have been removed for collecting decades ago. A few still have their post marks but most of them have had the date written on them when they were sent. I was given these cards by a family member to help me with my family genealogy and they proved to be a wealth of information. I had never seen post cards like these before. I even shed a tear over a few of the sentiments on the reverse. I have a new found appreciation for the artwork that went into making some of these postcards. Thank you for the link to your site. Comments (5)How fabulous! I haven't built my front bathroom yet, so the world remains my oyster. I really love the metal looks, particularly the brushed nickle looking one, and the darker metal, shoji-type one. Gorgeous! I want to know, too. Christine...See MoreVintage sofa frame quality
Comments (3)Cardboard, seriously?!!?? Thanks for your thoughts. The plan is to unload them from the truck once we finish painting the patio; put them on the patio and decide if they are comfortable/more comfortable than our current sofa. I really don't think we have space in our living room for both the sofa and loveseat, which is a bummer. Well, there COULD be space but then you'd have to climb over them to get into the living room LOL! :-) Not sure upholstery costs, but I'm guessing it will be more money than we'd like to pay ;-) My DH doesn't like them any more or any less than what we already have, but our current is easier to keep clean because it has the microsuede fabric. He'd like leather, ideally, so I will look into the price of that!...See MoreFramed vintage sheet music
Comments (13)Here's something I made 15 years ago, along that line: Close up: I bought the sheet music, postcards and photos at an antique store. Did not want to ruin any old pictures I had. Tore deeds to use as the background. Brown paper is a grocery bag crumpled up, then "antiqued" with antiquing liquid bought at Michael's (looks like leather). I used a large stretched canvas from Michael's (use coupon for 40% off). I used either textured papers or lace behind pictures Used antiquing liquid again to tone down whites. Trinkets from around the house - buttons, single silver earring I used to wear as a teenagers, keys, large metal thing from side of sewing machine (spray painted) and a tiny ring DD2 gave me when she was in preschool. I thought it needed something after finishing, so I added the upholstery tacks at each corner. Also like using the black photo corners - gives it that "old" feeling....See Morebpath
