How do you clean windows with built in grills?

Looking to replace windows and considering few options. Windows with built in grill (on the interior and exterior) look so much better but how does one clean those darn things?

Not sure how far you are into your research, so this may not be helpful in your case, but there are some interior grills that are removable for cleaning.

yes I saw the removable ones but they don't look as good. The "divided light" grills (they are permantly affixed to the window) seem to look the best. If any of you have the permanent grills, please share your cleaning tips!

I had the 48" DCS in my last house. Overall we weren't impressed with the DCS, it needed service a couple of times in the first couple of years (we lived with it for 4). However, the griddle was great, we loved it. It was great for pancakes, toasted sandwiches and reheating pizza! We had the grill, but as vegans didn't use it much, maybe for veggie burgers etc. It did work well and seemed to get as hot as needed. I recently bought the 44" Aga Legacy for my real Victorian remodel. SOOOO unhappy with it that my awesome dealer (Yale Appliance in Boston) offered to take it back (long story). We picked out a 48" Monogram with the griddle today to replace it. We are very lucky that we can move a cabinet and fit the 48" in. I was sold on the Monogram by the chef who works at Yale. He is beyond knowledgable and has no incentive to sell me anything. He pointed out lots of features the Monogram has over the Viking, Wolf etc. I was also shopping ovens, and the size and rolling shelves of the Monogram sealed the deal. GE took the brand back from DCS and really put a lot of thought and engineering into the brand.

How do you clean your Bluestar grill?

Deegeegirl You can remove the grates the two stainless steel surrounds the flavor bar and the burner itself. you should only need to remove 1 screw that being the one that holds the burner in place to the back of the range. once the flavor bar and the burner have been removed you can also take out the triangular piece at the base of the grill. you must be very careful not to touch the ignition bar to the left of the Grill. I would use easy off to remove the burnt on grease. Once clean i would recommend lining the grill box with tin foil making sure to over lap the sides so the stainless steel surrounds trap the tin foil. we also line the center of the burner and the triangular bar across the base. Making sure to cut slits both side of the triangular bar at the base to alow grease to run onto the drip pan. Hope that helps

You're supposed to clean them? LOL. My technique involves removing the lower sash so I can clean the outside of them (2nd floor) once a year. The stop bead pulls off, then I can disconnect the sash cord and turn the window inward enough to reach. I can contort myself out and sit on the sill to wash the outside of the upper sash. For my upper front windows I walk out on the porch roof. The triple-track storms are more of a problem to clean, since the white factory-applied finish is very chalky, and smears onto the glass. I try to do windows before x-mas, and again when winter is over. Something to do with the low sun angle shining through filthy windows bothers me, I guess. Casey

How do you paint door window grilles different colors?

Paint one side and then paint the other side. I would use something with some sheen so that when you paint the other side you can easily clean off the oops from the paint leaking over the edge. When you paint the final side, use a good brush and brush away from the edge to minimize getting paint on the finished side. Honestly, grill painting with 2 colors is not a fun job, even for a pro.

Simulated Divided Lite which would be interior and exterior are 99% of the time permanently applied as to truly duplicate as closely as possible True Divided Lites. And the only answer as far as cleaning the glass truthfully is cafefully.

You just have to clean each section of glass individually, which is slow and tedious. The removable interior grills don’t typically last very long before breaking or warping. I’d avoid those.

Great advice above. If you value looks over the convenience of easy cleaning, SDL's are a great choice. For similar curb appeal but less drama up close and easier cleaning, choose grids between the glass... Removable grids are a good concept to try and meet somewhere in between, however they are just impossible to execute well where they don't fall apart easily.
