Early Morning Blooms in Central Texas
Comments (9)Thanks for the compliments everyone! The roses sure loved the rain we've been receiving. I can't wait for the other rose bushes to bloom... Wilo, most of my Austins were purchased from Dirt & Roses, a local nursery in Pflugerville, who I believe purchase their roses from Chamberlee Rose Nursery in Tyler. When Dirt & Roses does not have a rose that I really, really want, I then shop at the US David Austin website. All of my OGR are from the Antique Rose Emporium, which I simply LOVE! A.R.E. is like a big candy store for us roseaholics!...See MoreEarly blooming morning glory, tall morning glory
Comments (2)My ivy leafed small light blue morning glories bloomed first and got to about four foot tall. The Early morning, or tall mix got tallest at about ten foot and bloomed much later. Because they needed to be sown after frost I didn't see a lot of difference between my direct sown and winter sown. I didn't use the best soil though and my drainage was bad. This year I'm doing more and will be direct sowing for ease of planting out....See MoreBloom Morning Glories BLOOM!!
Comments (18)I plant Heavenly Blues every year here at the end of the fence, then by the time the hollyhocks are done the MGs twine along the top of the fence (and sometimes up HH stalks as you can see). So far they aren't as robust as in years past and I have had to encourage vines to grow along the top by entwining them myself to the pickets. The vines on the window have just started to bloom as of last week. Lots of buds behind the leaves. Would you believe I spied two or three dark purple blooms of Grandpa Otts!? I pulled them asap! How many years has it been since I planted GO? 6? Every Spring I watch for seedlings and pull them - handfuls every day. They still manage to evade me....See MoreAttempts at catching the magic of early morning ....
Comments (10)Ruth, I am so pleased to have enabled you to get September Morn. Isn't it beautiful? And the fragrance is the die for. Plus it keeps pumping out those big many petaled flowers through the heat of summer. The mounding pink rose is Rainbow Knockout. The red rose with the Larkspurs is Prospero and the pink is Pretty Jessica. They are David Austins, both very fragrant and highly recommended, but being older ones are hard to find. I planted them together since they both stay small. They are among the dozen or so roses that stayed....See Morewantonamara Z8 CenTex
