Hate overpriced Target. Love their TV ads, I think they use the best ad agency on the planet. . They prob buy MLs from multiple sources.

I also get disturbed when I get mail with wrong name/right address. Have not acted on it but do monitor $ and no irregularities to date. We have had CC crime but were specific events, i.e. Somebody, not me, Buying a round trip tix to London (!).

I got a coupon for Palais Royal (sp?) with someone else's name and address recently also. I don't know why. We get so many solicitors here and I believe our name and address is public information from the utilities.

Whether it's junk mail (whose name is all you need to know) or advertising mail pieces wrongly addressed, delivered, or labeled, your trash can is waiting to help you. The wherefores and whys don't really matter, do they?

chisue, I'm surprised you would have spent even a moment of time making a phone call. What information might you hope to receive, if any at all, that would be of any use to you?

I would chalk it up to a computer or data inputting error. I know I've found some people listed on my credit report as being "associated" with me, but they just have the same last name and first initial and the bill collectors are always after them. I've had them removed but still sometimes get calls. My standard reply now is that they died. Since your credit report is locked, it's doubtful any of those people have been added, but you might want to double check with a free copy of your credit report.

I used to joke that mail list providers use prison inmates to compile mailing addresses, letting them make up names while giving access to addresses. We have had some lulus!

I got those coupons in the mail, I have no idea why. I thought that perhaps, since I'd just bought two bags of dog food and got a $10 gift card at Target, that I'd gotten on a mailing list? I tried to use the one coupon for a DVD and was told that I couldn't use it for that. UGH!

I'm concerned that three other people are associated with our address on some mailing list. The list had to come from *somewhere*. Google finds two of the names at an address in West Chicago; nothing on the third.

Target was hacked within the last few years. Anyone who'd used a CC there -- Target card or other -- had their information stolen. Target notified us that our information was probably among those records. Nothing happened...then.

Years ago, we decided to save a few hundred dollars on some furniture by opening a CC with a store. When the store ran a credit check using my DH's SS number and our address, my DH's name did not come up. Another man's name came up at our address. He was unknown to us. He was not a former owner of our home. That's when we froze our credit records.

We got copies of our reports recently. They are clean.

It took me ten minutes to report to Target. Why wouldn't I?

For those replying in this thread: Did you receive coupon cards address to YOU, or addressed to other names?

Usually just 'current resident', but sometimes the previous owners. I don't remember any other names, if I did see another name, I would figure that a sales/coupon mailing list was incorrect and use it or just throw it out.

I guess my point is, what have you learned or accomplished? I think you're looking at an innocent event with unwarranted concern and sensitivity and perhaps even a bit of imagination but of course do what makes you comfortable.

Nothing personal intended, chisue. Your comment was a reminder to me of how skittish we've all become with mail, email, phone calls, etc., because of a few evil doers. Just yesterday, the phone rang and Caller ID showed a questionable looking number. (I've been getting a lot of calls lately from "solar installers", police and military benevolent funds(?) and political interests). I chuckled about it and answered the call, which I always do anyway. Turned out it was a friend who had a new phone number and whose Caller ID didn't include his name.

It was a good reminder to me that the actions of a few make everyone overstate and overestimate real risks.

I hear you, Elmer/Snidely. I'm not fretting about it. If our information had not been 'lifted' in the Target hack, I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Our $13/mo. land line doesn't have Caller ID, but we don't pick up on the cell unless it is family. A doctor's office pressed for our cell phone number; I refused. I don't want to discuss my medical problems in public. (I wish other people didn't!)
