Yes, the packages of pods that say "new improved formula" have TAED. I've found both the new and old versions in my area. The old formula does not have TAED. GG claims these new pods clean as well as Tide. Disclaimer-I haven't personally tried them (yet).

I agree with mamap, it's a whites/light detergent. Percarbonate is quite high up on the ingredients list. Impressive results, especially for a so called green detergent. Shout out to larsi for turning me onto these!

I'm about to order a GG on sale at Well.ca. Not sure what scent to go with. Assume they are best for whites/lights as mentioned? Not sure what I'll use them on.

I'll be the rebel and say that I really like Laundress. I own more than I should lol. I have the signature, whites, darks, sport, delicates, wool & cashmere (plus stain, stain bar etc). I use it quite often actually. Love the scent and have no issues with cleaning the loads I do use it for.

I have fairly expensive sheets and don't relish the idea of using Tide or Persil on them. I know the manufacturers don't recommend that for washing. I have used those when I think they need the extra boost. As mentioned, body oils are tough. I use Leblanc Linen wash on mine but have used other things.

I'm more of a fan of these ;) Super Powerful, Smell Amazing, and Very LOW Sudsing.

There is sodium percarbonate and enzymes in the GG, but no optical brighteners.

I'm switching over to the Grab Green pods when my Vaska tabs run out. Unfortunately, I still have two bags to get through and less laundry each week so it will be a while.

If anyone wants to give Vaska a test drive, let me know!

I have to break the tabs or it does get too sudsy in my soft water. It's certainly not Persil or Tide but it's fine for no/low soil loads and it rinses well. My towels are that organic cotton, which is very dry, and Vaska doesn't make that worse.

I like pinky's idea of giving white sheets a Persil/Tide wash for brightening every so often. I'd do that if mine start to get dingy. I'm sticking with LeBlanc for the conditioning, at least for now. Larsi described it well: it gives sheets a "cared for" quality.

Laundress is scary high sudsing with no muscle. I didn't find it to clean very well and it had a sort of a sickening fragrance. Many better products out there.

I bought two bags of GG pods at TJ Max for $4.99 ea. Love the fragrance and the low suds. I found that in a very full load that one pod didn't feel like enough, but with two maybe there were too many suds. Though everything rinsed clean. TJ Max also had a bag of powder and I regret not buying the bag. I have plenty of Ariel powder blue bag, but I really need to find a good detergent for darks and delicates.

I just tried the vetiver scent on a load today. One pod and I can smell the clothes hanging up across the room. The scent is very strong and not pleasing to my nose.

Interesting, I use a dryer and after they dry I can barely smell anything and that fades within a day. I like the vetiver scent, but everyone is different. Sorry you don't like the fragrance.

I just bought a package of the GG wet dryer sheets, fragrance free and I find them to have a chemical scent when wet and none when dry.

Very normal for clothes to have more scent if line drying.

I see my local health food store sells GG in the Gardenia scent but for 21 $ for a small bag of pods..no way.

I did three beds of sheets yesterday in Lavender Vanilla. I loved the smell. When I made the beds today I could still smell it. White sheets looked lovely but not a real test of cleaning power.

Hi MamaP. Glad to see you here. How is your grandson? By the way I bought a 24 pod bag of GG in vetiver scent for $4.99 at TJMaxx. I am buying more if I see them for that price again. I have never used pods before and love the ease of use. No mess. Hate not being able to use have a pod.

schneemaid Did you use a full load? I washed just a jacket in the GG and the scent was too strong for me too. I had it hanging for several weeks and just couldn't ware it that way, so ran it through another rinse and spin cycle, and the scent has been fine. My jacket is pictured in the top photo I posted above. The suds were well under control but the scent was too much. But that 4th rinse was the ticket.

It was a full load. I normally use 1-2 TB of Cheer Powder so I am not used to strongly scented laundry!

I tucked my kids in tonight and their sheets still smell. The scent definitely lingers.

By the way, these GG pods come in unscented too - for those who like the performance but not the scent.

Rococogul, did you try the Gardenia scented GG? I would love to try it, as gardenia is one of my favorite scents.

@enduring - I love gardenia also and plan to try the GG gardenia. But I have a bag of the GG delicate pods plus 2 bags of Vaska to use up first.

The GG delicate is unscented.

Only have found GG one place -- my health food store and they carry unscented, 2 in 1 and delicate only.

Everyone trying the GG I am sooo jelly. LOL. I do like that they have sodium percarbonate and the bleach activator. And Gardenia is soo delightful. I suppose the GG are something for me to look forward to haha.

I will advise you all though not to make a habit of bathing your darks and colors in the GG since they do have oxygen bleach.

Do the GG have actually cleaning agents? I know it has enzymes and oxygen bleach plus activator. None of my sheet loads had any suds. I know suds don't = clean just curious those of you who read the ingredient lists.

I need to do towels today and I'm hesitant to use the GG. I've been quite pleased with the Leblanc towel wash.

We are all so different. I didn't care for the LeBlanc towel wash at all. Didn't find any conditioning effect and it was very hard to rinse.

The GG delicate work as well as Vaska on my towels. My towels are silver gray and light green.

I wouldn't use any of those on darks -- only the dark wash on the blacks or the Persil for colors.

For whites I use Persil Perls.

Livebetter..I'm sure your talking about surfactants when you say cleaning agents..I haven't looked at the GG ingredients, but surely they have surfactants, doesn't mean they have great surfactants LOL. And yes suds doesn't mean better cleaning on the other hand no suds could mean a poor surfactant, since they are not formulated to be a suds free detergent. Best and only way to know for sure if the GG is conditioning the water in order to really do their job is to stop the machine and feel the water..it should feel slippery, if not than your not getting a deep into the fibers clean, and eventually it will show..the clothes will become dingy and have odors, although if LFS is used the odors may be masked..LOL. I've run across this with a few boutique detergents, they smell great, but cleaning was pathetic and once I felt the water I realized they didn't condition the water s o no way they could clean the clothes. Test the bath water. LOL.

Mama, I'll try that next time. I think I have a limited time window to open the machine before it says the drum is locked (?) I don't pause all that often though so not sure. It's different for different programs.

I'm seeing a lot of water softeners but only this is a surfactant I think? sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate?

I did two loads of towels today with the GG and I was really pleased. They felt soft and the light scent was great. There were a few dirty towels (thanks to my two boys) and they all came out clean. Still not a super duper cleaning test. I plan to do a kitchen towel test to really give them a test. I do kitchen towels in a separate load when I have enough to wash. Persil US perls does a great job on them so I look forward to what GG can do.

Picked up a pack at the local grocery store for 8 bucks..I made sure it had the TAED. I saw the booster, but it didn't have TAED...which I think would make it a killer product. New to pods tho.. I'm a little nervous with my stingy machine

I have been on the hunt for these at stores in Chicago. I finally found some yesterday at the small grocery store near my office. Fortunately, I'd snapped a pic and sent to Larsi before buying any because he pointed out they didn't have TAED.

What is TAED again? Why is it important?

A bleach activator that allows sodium percarbonate to function at lower temperatures. In theory I could buy the "old" GG pods and just select very hot temps for my whites (which I generally do anyway).

What temperature is needed to activate the GG pods without TAED?

Eeek. I have seen this research somewhere (AutomaticWasher.org, most likely) but cannot recall. I do remember that it's an exponential, rather than linear, relationship.

IIRC, the greatest gains are achieved beyond 120F and approaching 140F. Washing above 140F is a game of diminishing returns (but still a whole lot of fun).

Just received my GG gardenia pods. Laundry is finished for the week but will report next week.

Sodium percarbonate without an activator works best at 140F and above just at the temp the enzymes will be killed off.

According to Wikipedia... TAED works at 40C/104F..which is still the 'hot' setting on my washer. Percarbonate without it doesn't kick in until 60/140..which is Extra hot or sanitize

Another thing to remember is if your using really super hot water and sodium percarbonate it only needs about 10 to15minutes to get the job done which is why stove top boiling should be limited to 10 minutes.

Try this...Cheer Free liquid and pure sodium percarbonate in a very hot wash...Magic. Whites only LOL.

Mamapinky, where do you find Cheer Free liquid? Haven't seen it anywhere where I live. All I've seen is Tide, All and maybe A and H.

Bea, I find the Cheer Free liquid at my Walmart. Its not OB free like the powder, but none of the liquid Cheers are OB free. I haven't used it for a good while, but I used to like it with pure sodium percarbonate and very hot water on sheets. Gave them a lovely smooth feel.

First load of towels done with Gardenia Grab Green. Cannot see any difference in result between that and the Vaska tabs or any of the other mild detergents. The only advantage is a very faint, fresh and clean fragrance that doesn't especially smell like gardenia but is vaguely floral. For me, this is a plus because I don't need to spray towels with linen spray to get some fragrance. Vaska lavender leaves 0 aroma. The GG didn't create suds and rinsed quite clean. I will see how it wears.

I did kitchen towels yesterday with the GG. A few stains came out after washing but that's not unusual and happens with Persil too. The soft scent left of the towels is nice and when I removed one from the drawer today it still smelled. I do find the scent lingers which is nice.

I really can't wait to try the GG now that Our Roc has spoken. Roc is a pro when it comes to what brands of light duty detergent do the job. I expect my lovely white bath towels to benefit from the GG.

Roc, I know you generally use FS lightly on bath towels are you using it with the GG?

Livebetter..what temp do you wash your kitchen towels on? I generally do a short cool quick wash than a 150+ F Long wash and don't think I've had a leftover stain since getting this Duet. God have I mentioned lately I LOVE my Duet LOL. AND I just got a wster bill today...Roc, Larsi and Alex you will be impressed..my water bill comes every 2 months and encludes sewage..it used to run about 240--250....the past several bills have been 148 that's a 100$ savings..which equates to 50$ a month...love it

@mamapinky - Yes, pinky, still using the Ecover FS but only on towels. I think it's because I have the Coyuchi organic cotton towels from India. That Indian cotton seems to be very dry and these towels get stiff without the FS. Happens with any detergent with those towels.

Does not happen with my sheets or clothes which don't require FS.

Will say that the GG has far less suds than Vaska and rinses well. Fragrance is a plus and the pods are more convenient than cutting the tabs. Vaska used to be crumbly almost. The newest bag has a different texture and now needs to be cut -- similar to the Method Smarty Tabs for the dishwasher.

Again, though, need to see how they perform over time.

@Mamapinky - excellent news. I knew your new washer would save on water but am pleasantly surprised that you realize that much in savings per month. Good good.

Wish I could say LiGi has saved me money. On the contrary, my electric bill has gone up by roughly the same amount as your savings. My new dryer is electric whereas the old was gas, so that's part of it. The other contributor is that I have LiGi set to draw cold water only and electrically heat to target temperature. Previously, I was pulling hot water (from the condo association's boiler, i.e. not paying for it directly). Tradeoffs!

@mamapinky - With all the raps on energy smart it's good to hear that you actually have savings on your electricity. That happened to me when I switched out all the lightbulbs to LED. We can all use a little help of that kind.

Mama, I think it may be more because I had so many towels and waited to wash them all at once that it could be weeks before they got washed letting stains really set. I have a thing for Williams Sonoma towels. I recently purged them down to two weeks worth (one per day) so they will be washed more often. It's usually only a few little stains that persist.

Geez, my husband was not happy about our hyrdro bills this summer. We were way above our neighborhood apparently.
