Mail order hosta
Comments (4)Shana - I have ordered several times from Hallson Gardens. They are very proactive in eliminating HVX from their stock. They also have a very good forum. Their hostas have very good root structure and depending on the size of your order, you can get a bonus hosta that is free (I think a minimum of 3 will get you the bonus). I got a H. Li'l Abner this year as a bonus as well as H. Dragon Tails. Very pleased with what I have purchased from them. I also have purchased from Jim's Hosta and plan to purchase at least one designer hosta from Naylor Creek next year. Comments (15)I don't have Niagara Falls and my L. Ripples is still very young (as you can see!). However, the more upright stance of the latter is already evident in this example. The leaves don't cascade downwards as with Niagara Falls. I include a previous posting relating to the same subject matter that may be of some use. Mine was purchased in the fall of last year. It is still two divisions, and whilst the ripples on the leaves are perhaps more evident at the start of this year, it looks as if it's going to take some time to fill in fully. Comments (17)I had no idea there were failures with Niagara Falls. Was I being selectively blind or something? Every one I see is beautiful. Mine arrived looking good, and continues looking that way. Theresa, I'd say it was not a wimp. Have not experimented with it, nor have I tried to find a spot it does NOT like, but it was easy to please here. Comments (4)Karen, My mature Potomac Pride is pretty much the same size as your Blue Mountains and VERY dark. Not sure it gets as big as what you are looking for. Here is a recent picture. Nigrescens gets really big and is impressive. When we were at Tom Riddle's display garden this summer, that was the first hosta my DH ever expressed an keen interest in and we HAD to get one. More of a paler bluish-green, though, than what you're looking for, I think. Here is a photo of "our" baby Nigrescens. Sorry its a little blurry but so am I this morning... How about 3 big hostas? Niagara Falls on one side.... Potomac Pride in the center.... and Nigrescens on the other side? If there's room for 3 big ones. Niagara and Nigrescens have a more upright habit and Potomac more mounding...I can see it now...Put in a post for that red-tailed hawk to sit on and watch over your new bed...
