I was taking kitchen scraps to the compost pile when I saw this grasshopper. I went back and got my camera. He had not moved. Most of the time when something like that happens, by the time I return to the spot, the insect is gone!

For Bob, to go with his other story today. I had these two little visitors and I called animal control. They would not come out. They said to leave them alone and mom would be by to collect them. Well, the next day, when they were sitting under a car out in the street, no mom in sight, I invited them into a cat carrier and took them down to the bike trail which is a very heavily wooded area. They scampered off and I'm sure lived happily ever after. Certainly happier than if they had remained in my yard or out on the street.

I made three loaves of crusty bread today. Last weekend I was at my dads and picked fresh oregano, basil, Rosemary, parsley, and chives. I'm giving one to my daughter along with some soup when I see her tomorrow. Another loaf goes to my dad to taste the herbs and one loaf for us.

That time of year again, always a few goldfinches taking advantage of the fading coneflowers.
