Comments (5)Your plant is providing you with indications it has an unhappy root system (I looked at the video), and a healthy plant isn't possible unless the roots are happy. FWIW, the overwhelming % of growers who arrive here seeking help are here because of issues related to poor root health/function. If you can't water your soil to the point where it's fully saturated and at least 15-20% of the total volume of water you applied during the watering process has exited the drain hole, your soil is a limiting factor and you'll be fighting it for control over your plant's health until you get the plant into something more appropriate. Simply adding a large fraction of perlite to an already inappropriate soil is a step in the right direction, but all you end up with is an inappropriate soil with a lot of perlite in it. Additionally, you have the fact that Feb thru Apr are probably the worst months to consider repotting to work around. The extra soil volume you added is counterproductive at this point (increases the impact of issues related to excess water retention), so I think I would probably remove the recently added soil and return the plant to it's old pot, after inspecting the roots for rot and correcting any issues I discover. Then, I would flush the soil thoroughly and learn how to deal with the excess water retention until mid to late Jun when I would repot into something more appropriate. There is more to talk about and more specific instructions, but I'll hold on that until I learn whether or not you're interested in following a course that approaches the situation from the plant's POV, which is essentially making sure the things that are most likely to be limiting your plant are fixed. Comments (0)Hi, I am trying to help a money tree that was in my coworkers office. I believe it has been overwatered. All the leaves are yellow and brown on the ends, it has lost many leaves and it just doesn't look happy. I brought it home and have been giving it nice indirect sunlight. Should I give it direct sunlight? I'm wondering if I should prune it or would that just add to the stress? I don't know much about them so is it hopeless or can it come back? I look forward to any help!! Thank you!!!!!!...See MoreDirect breeze for Pachira Aquatica (Money Tree)? Need Advice!
Comments (7)If the humidity level is high enough, the fan won't be a problem, but if it's sub-40%, it will be. I'm not sure how you have your plant set up for drainage, but at least one hole should be through the bottom at some point. Even if the holes in the sides are 1/8" above the bottom - that's a problem. There should be no way the effluent that exits the drain hole should have a pathway back into the pot. If it was my plant, I'd be using a wick to assist drainage, I'd water it over the sink, then tip the pot at a 45* angle with the wick hanging down from the lowest point in the pot bottom (as though you tipped figure E 45* to the right)until the planting stops draining. 3 weeks between waterings is a certain indicator you're leaving a lot of your plant's potential untapped. Another way of saying that is, 3 weeks between waterings is a sure indication there is a significant degree of limitation in play due to an overly water-retentive soil. You would be doing well to flush the soil and fertilize with regularity, and plan a full repot (as opposed to potting up) into a medium that allows you to water correctly. Comments (5)how about a pic of the tree... the pot/planter .... etc ... you should always plant into damp media ... you should not plant into dry material ... and then hope you can properly water all of it from the top ... trees like a sip of water.. and then near total draining ... most of the water runs right thru ... which you wont know.. because your pot retains the water ... i would like a pic of the gizmo that holds the water.. can it be left out of the pot ... ??? i cant think of any tree.. that needs to be fed every 2 weeks ... is this a houseplant [now that i googled it]??? ... if so.. i wonder if you might find some peeps with direct experience.. in that forum ... it would be a different equation.. if its outdoors in a large pot .. the trick here.. is that as your proper media.. washes water out the bottom.. you need to put it back in the pot ... and that is a tough equation .... i guess i would start with an equivalent pot size.. and practice with it after ... presuming the plant has not been touched yet .... what difference would it make.. if you waited a month while practicing with your media ... the biggest problem with trees in pots .... is too much water ... as the roots tend to start rotting .... you say the roots are weak.. but you dont say.. the plant has been affected ... is it.. hence the pic request ... look at this link for the section on water and fert ... unless i read it wrong .. let it dry to an inch depth .. and fert it once or twice per year... if growing it as a bonsia... which i presume he means as a houseplant ... https://www.epicgardening.com/money-tree-plant/ you have to make sure ... with trees in pots ... that you dont love them to death .... and it starts with watering .. or better put.. drying ... ken ps: note what the link says about media ... and it also says... if you repot.. dont be surprised with some leaf losses due to the process ......See MoreJoanne
