Unable to left click on Windows icon in taskbar

I am unable to left click to open the Windows 4-window icon in the lower left corner of the task bar on my laptop. When I have a look at the system folder, there is a sentence that says that it is only available offline. The only thing I have knowingly done recently is install Dropbox and synced it with my Samsung tablet. Thinking this might be the problem, I uninstalled Dropbox, but the problem remains. Anyone have a clue as to what I might have done? I sure don't. Thanks.

Have you tried the windows icon on your kb=keyboard, Dropbox was not the problem. What happens if you right click on it?

The fix below came from the Microsoft Community
This fix did work for the original Poster at the community.
- Open the Task manager. Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
- Click File > Run New Task
- Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
- Type CMD
- Type the following 4 commands at the CMD prompt:
  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
- sfc /scannow
powershell

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
- Close the CMD window
Check to see if the issue is resolved. If not, restart the PC.

Organize your desktop items in the order that you would like them to stay. Make sure they are all in the correct spot before you continue the process. Right-click with your mouse anywhere on your desktop. Select "View" on the options tab that comes up. Select "Desktop Items" next and uncheck the line that says "Auto Arrange" by clicking on it. Click "Align to Grid" to align your desktop icons in their current position. Click "Show Desktop Items" to make any further changes and finalize the positions of your desktop icons. Click "Apply" in the desktop menu and your icons will be locked in their current position the next time you turn off, reboot or reconfigure your computer.

It's ok now- I went to control panel/taskbar. It was already 'outohide', but I undid that, then redid it and have had no problems today... Thanks

Oh, I hate that. You have to grab the taskbar somewhere by holding down the left click mouse, and drag it around. I think to the side first, then around to the bottom. I don't remember exactly where to grab it and for me it takes a lot of patience. Dragging slowly around usually works best. I always try and try again, then one time it works and then I wonder how did I do that or where did I grab it. Someone else can probably explain better.

yes it will only stop the sp3 from showing up till the time period of the sp3 blocker runs out then it will likely show up again, the blocker only last for a certain amount of time. All other updates will appear as normal and the icon will appear to inform you. You can always go to the windows update website and see what you have blocked and unblock them from there too. You can block IE 7 from there also if not wanting it prior to getting sp3.

Thank you for the suggestions. The windows icon is mysteriously working again after I took out the laptop battery and put it back in and restarted it.
