moving annabelles
Comments (1)You do not want to move or transplant plants during the heat of summer and the peak of the growing season if you can possibly avoid it. Too much stress on the plants. Wait until fall and cooler weather or when the plant is dormant. And careful about dividing. While most hydrangeas are caning shrubs, shrubs do not divide in the same manner or as easily as perennials do. When you do dig them up, you might be able to gently separate away some of the most exterior stems that emerge from the ground. But don't whack through the rootball or you risk killing the plant....See MoreBest time to move Annabelle hydrangea
Comments (3)Doesn't matter. I love the dried flower heads on the plant over winter, I find it a lovely effect, but the choice is yours. Try to get her moved the earlier part of October to give her a good 6 weeks or so to settle in and get a bit established before the weather turns colder....See MoreDividing Annabelle
Comments (1)Technically hydrangea is a shrub and can't be divided. However, if you dig it out in early spring you'll either find self rooted stems that could be cut off of the parent plant or if it was planted in good loose soil, plant will fall apart on its own and you'll have several small plants. All 'divisions' will bloom the same year, but don't expect them to be of equal sizes. I wouldn't do that right now in z5. After such surgery plant immediately will go into shock and may have not enough time to recover and then settle before winter starts....See MoreDividing in early November, not just moving? Comments (4)I'm with Ken. If you transplant now there will be no chance for the plant to re-establish and anchor its roots and it'll likely heave. Wait till spring when they're pipping. Pieter...See Morevibi
