Brand new kitchen, big gap between range and countertop

We are in the middle of our remodel and we just put in our range. All of our cabinets and the counter top is new and custom made. I went and checked on the site and found big gap between the range and the counter top. In some parts it's so wide you can slide two figures in. They obviously made an error with the installation but I mentioned it to my contractor and he doesn't seem all all bothered. Our counter tops large solid quartz slaps, and it doesn't seem like they will be able to move them easily.

I am really concerned about food and grease getting trapped in between the gap. Is it normal to have this much gap between the counter top and the range? What is considered the 'normal' width for the gap?
