Help- refrigerator and double oven handles need to match !!
Comments (10)Hey guys and girls, thanks for your comments....and I totally understand . I feel have I given a great deal of thought regarding my appliances & choices. I was going to go with the Electrolux Icon Wave Touch double oven. Price is decent and it gets good reviews. I hear that the self cleaning in almost all the double ovens can be touchy and I am installing it in a deep cabinet to help with air in the back so I hope that helps that problem. However, I LOVE the look of the viking/thermadore professional series and would Love to have those over the Wave-touch--but I hear the wavetouch is a great buy and great oven??? The refrigerator I wanted standard depth for interior space and the location will be within 2 inches of the ovens-- NOT ideal I know to put a oven beside a refrigerator. -- but that's where it's going and why I wanted matching handles--but I know that's not going to happen with the ICON. My rangetop is a thermadore 6 burner. Hood a modernaire ps33-42 stainless. My DW - Bosch 800 plus - i think or KA. and undercounter will be a marvel-- but perlicks has caught my eye. So I don't think I am going by looks along. I was going to go with a Samsung refrigerator vs the Electrolux because I hear Samsung is better...Does anyone have any thoughts on the Electrolux full size refrigerators? (I know the handles won't match)...See MoreNeed help with Oven, Induction+Gas cooktop, and Fridge decisions
Comments (13)You got an excellent bargain on the oven. Do call Gaggenau and see if they'll honor the warranty. Congrats! Mine was FedEx'd from England. I think it was $70 U.S. duty, plus $5 for FedEx to handle the paperwork. Since you'll be carrying yours as luggage, you should be paying (if it hasn't changed) according to the following equation, with the price in U.S. dollars of your cooktop being X: duty=.03(X-800) That should be a lot less than import duty. That is, assuming that there isn't special duty on hand carried electronics or some such. If there's VAT in Germany, ask the store if you can have it waived since you're taking it out of the country. I don't know if you've seen the caveats. For your self-imported cooktop, you should get a letter from your insurance company saying that they know it's European rather than UL approved and that that doesn't affect your policy (mine said so long as it was installed by a licensed electrician). Also, you should make sure your building codes don't specify UL. If they do, you'll need a waiver. The Euro certification is just as good as UL, but you want to make sure that you have all the bases covered so they can't use a technicality to weasel out of the help you'd be given if there's a fire or something (like from a lightning strike). I'm also in California but local codes and inspectors vary. Do check with the airlines about the measurements they allow as well. It should be fine. My cooktop would fit, with its original box, into my old large pullman suitcase. I'm not sure about the newer ones, but it's the three dimensions added together they go by, with a maximum diagonal, so I think that part will be fine. Actually, if you have an old large pullman case, you might consider taking it, with some old towels or rags, and bring home the cooktop in the case, with the cloth for padding, instead of having to get an outer box and peanuts. Worse comes to worst, you can always send it FedEx. :)...See Morechoosing a 30' double oven range (gas)
Comments (5)We had the Gemini and loved it. We got it when Maytag first came out with them. Like you are planning, we primarily used the smaller oven. The lower oven being low to the ground really wasn't an issue due to the pull out glide racks--it made it so easy to get things in and out of that oven. Whichever range you choose, I would make sure that it has those glide racks in the bottom oven. I bake alot and I had excellent results no matter which oven I used....See MoreNeed help choosing refrigerator for new build
Comments (5)I have vouched for Liebherr before for a couple reasons, design and build quality are fantastic and energy efficiency is one of the best on the market. These are also all true counter depth refrigerators. If you're looking at going green and wanting a high end fridge go with Liebherr. For sizeing and space inside you can also look at a side by side unit, if you have the space for 48" or 60". Looking at a built-in or fully integrated refrigerator will never give the space a freestanding unit can give in equivalent sizes. You can also mix and match your side by sides to max out your options, ice maker/ full fridge/ fridge freezer, allowing you to decide how much or how little refrigerator or freezer you want in your kitchen. Warranty wise subzero and Liebherr have the best on the market, up to 12 year sealed system warranty. Do a little research into failure rate, i know Liebherr has a less than 2%, not sure what Subzero is. But if your budget allows for it, definitely go for one of those two....See MoreStan B
