Odiegirl - It is a filler cut from the edge of a 24" 88 cover panel. They don't exactly have filler strips. The finished edge is against the cabinetry, and the cut edge will be caulked against the wall. westsider - I thought I wanted attached top and bottom. I wouldn't be able to get anything out if it was all attached. It would depend on where the cabinet is, and since mine is against a wall, I decided to do the door. Seemed too dark otherwise. I only made that decision after it was installed. Very flexible. gitanoel - i'm not sure i understand your question. the handles are the small and the next size up, lol. the small is like 6" from screw to screw. I've been thinking about it and I think you should go custom. That's always the best way to maximize space and utility, and you have a small space that you want to do a lot of things. If your household is like mine, a space like that will be a mess unless it is easy to use. LOL, and even then, come to think of it! Also, any low cost furniture piece with drawers, in my experience, the drawers do not open and close well and so they usually are left half open or forsaken altogether. It needn't be really costly; instead of drawers you can use baskets. But a custom box with shelves and feet will maximize space.

Alrighty, here's design #3. You're not wrong about the budget, Carolina Kitchen ;) The running total is at $4,160 right now, but including a pantry cabinet would push it higher. We're cutting quite a bit of costs by doing a builder grade maple butcher block countertop and cheap $2-3 / sq ft ceramic tile for the walls and floor. It's still tight though. For that reason alone I'll probably have to ditch the pantry. I agree that it looks like valuable storage in your kitchen though, Janie! Wine cabinet is gone, I agree. The trash pull out in that pic is spot on - that's the exact model I was looking at (Rev-a-Shelf, correct?) and I was thinking we could add it later if we don't have the cash now. We compost and recycle most of our waste, and barely fill our trash once a week currently. I do think the drawers would have to just be junk drawers and office supplies. I replaced the two drawers with one large one, maybe that will be more useful? It could hold trash bags, big packs of batteries, etc. That's too funny that the farmhouse sink might be pretentious. I will graciously accept that opinion and probably do it anyway. I just like how they work! I love sinks that are full counter depth and don't leave a strip of counter in the back or front to get soaked with water. It also makes the most sense for us with butcher block countertops to have the sink that is least likely to get the counter wet. In this new design, it's moved 8.25" away from the corner which is as far as we can get with the current plumbing. Not sure what to do with those 8.25" though. The bottom of the range hood is 32" above the cooktop. Is that too high? My husband is 6' 2" and always complains about ours now which is 29" above.

I deleted my comment, toyed around with it in IKEA's website and realized that if I moved the stove to the fridge wall I'd have to get rid of my lower cabinet and add 2 12's.... Not nearly as functional. There would be a plus to being able to see into the living room, but the negative is that I would always be in the way when I'm cooking. Our fridge can't go into the corner because of our heater, even beside the window is out because of that. I think I'm just going to be stuck with some filler pieces. At the end of the day, it'll be 1000x more functional than it is now. I do think that I'm going to move the microwave beside the fridge, and put a nice hood over my range. Will just have to adjust the height of my cabinets on the basement wall. ETA: Weird question... if I use 20 inch cabinets above the microwave, can I line up the bottom of that cabinet with the bottom of the fridge cabinet and have them at different heights? I can't find a taller fridge cabinet.... is there one? Kitchen with hood
