I have been using the PDF reader built into Firefox for some time now. No complaints with it. Regarding your unwanted crapware I have been using the custom install for some time after realising some sites were doing exactly what Foxit has been up to. It is about money of course, they get a fee for all those unwanted installs, plus many of those probably do not get removed once the user has made the discovery. For those who may fear using the custom install method it is very simple, you check off all you need and leave out what is not wanted.

if you took your pc into a repair shop and they returned it with the xp repair infection still on it you need to get your money back and never take anything back there again. You have a serious rogue infection on your pc. Anyone that knows anything would have informed you of that and gone through the cleaning process. You need to go to the forum I am going to link to and register there, start a new thread of your own there in the area I link to. Tell them what you have told here and you can put a link to this thread too. You will be assisted by the team there to go through the clean up procedure to be rid of this infection. It is not one you can do with out assistance. Once you begin there please just stick with the team there and only follow those directions so there is no confusion or conflict. I am there also if you need help getting started. Analysis and Malware Removal do not do anything else to your pc and lets hope they did not clear out any of your temp file folders. do not attempt to follow the directions from bleeping computer alone get the help at LzD to guide you.

Thanks, everyone. Those warnings make me nervous... To answer zep's questions - yes, it is Vista; and yes, it is Internet Explorer. OK, so I think it is the firewall, then. So I will allow it; and I will tell it not to ask me again. I didn't allow it at first, so then I allowed it the second time (waited for my computer to blow up... ; ) ... but it didn't happen); but I didn't check on not to show again because I was afraid that if allowing it was not the thing to do, I wouldn't be able to see that pop-up again. If that makes sense. If I have any problems with version 7, I'll let you guys know. I did notice that when I was downloading it, it took awhile to download some patches along with it. What Brand of Laptops Do you have? What Operating System do they have (Windows 7, Windows 8 or 8.1)? I would suggest doing a Reinstall of your Operating System using Recovery Disks. Did you make your Recovery Disks Like recommended in your Laptops Paperwork? The Manufacturers no longer send Recovery Disks, you must either make a set of DVD Recovery Disks or make a Flash Drive Recovery Disk! You may also be able to Purchase a Recovery Set or Flash Drive from the Manufacturer. I purchased a Refurbished Laptop that had a Clean Install of Windows 8 (not with the Acer Software Recovery Disks). The Seller didn't use Acer Recovery Disks but used a Retail Windows Disk that removed the Recovery Partition. I was unable to create a recovery disk not having a Recovery Partition. I wanted the Laptops Reset to factory but with that clean install the Recovery Partition was removed. Anyway, I ordered a Recovery Flash Drive from Acer for $45+ Tax shipped (about $50 all together). I've since restored my laptop to factory settings and currently have Windows 10 Home Installed! There isn't anyone trying to collect $150 a year for anything. I'm assuming that you may have some form of Virus/Malware/Spyware on your system! Windows 10 shouldn't have tried to install unless you told it you wanted to upgrade!
