Soffit over vanity . . . remove or keep?
Comments (5)Ok, then, it's almost done! Thank you both!! Sconces would be my first choice, but they won't fit even if I replace our wall mirror with two 24" wide mirrors for each sink because we have recessed medicine cabinets that are built into each side wall that are hinged near the corners. I'm trying to replace the old medicine cabinets anyway. I'm looking for a couple of mirrored medicine cabinets that I could wall mount over each sink but haven't found them yet . . ....See MorePossible to remove a vitrious china undermount sink from Corian?
Comments (21)I am happy to report that the sink has been excised from the Corian! It's now on my DR table (which tends to be my overflow project room) and I spent a few hours last Saturday looking through the remnants at nearby stone yards here in southern Maine. Yikes - what a variation in price! In one very close to my home, I saw a remnant of imperial Danby Marble that was beautiful with the sink, as the soft tan in it was picking up the crackle finish in the sink. I made my vanity in the powder room from an antique bureau. I need a top about 23 x 43, and currently have a 3" back splash. That place quoted me $1050.+ :-( Current top, which I'd save and possibly use again someday, if I tire of the sink above. I went to a much smaller two man operation, and while they didn't have a remnant that I liked as well, their price, including templating and install, was approx. $400. :-) I left my name and they saw the faucet handle that I lugged around to hold up to the stone, so they know what I'm looking for. I'll check back with them from time to time to see what else they may have. I also saw this overmount sink in a painted wooden top in the link below, and if I can't find some stone that doesn't break the bank, I may go this route. I could also do some faux marble painting, in either something like the Imperial Danby or what I think the dark green marble is above - Empress Green? I think that a soft white with tan veins, along the line of what I did on this little antique table with gray veins below might be best in my home, though. Here is a link that might be useful: Another possibility - stained or painted wood...See MorePainted Trim - decorate room & remove the oak trim! Pics below (4)
Comments (18)Consider a warm white paint, that is on trend, and would lower the contrast between the oak and the walls........possibly a blend of the lightest color in your sofa? find a rug that is done in a tweed effect; cost effective and lots of choices that will work with the warm oak trim. Also you have a lot of room on either side of the fireplace; consider putting the TV on either side down low over a console? Or if you are considering new furniture place the TV on another entirely and see about doing a sectional that embraces the new TV location and the fireplace. win win. Some examples of TV to side of fireplace in rooms with multiple windows and some nice furniture arrangements. Go big or go home!...See MoreNeed advice to remove discoloration from exterior trim
Comments (2)Yes red oak. The architect made style over substance choices in this place. I suspect it was to make it look like the red oak floors extended beyond the windows or something like that. Previous owner didn‘t keep up on refinishing. I tried some oxalis acid... worked ok in some spots and others look like this photo. i am afraid to use peroxide because I don’t want to bleach the red oak natural color......See Moremaggiepatty
