Comments (9)Recently, my friend and I made upholstered headboards for our daughters. They are queen sized, but no reason you couldn't do full. She made hers from hone-dec fabric. I used an old mattelasse bedspread. If you are interested, email and I will send you the directions I wrote up....See MoreBed vs. headboard problem
Comments (10)Pretty headboard - I can understand why you want to use it. Since the design of the headboard is truly centered, filling in the space with the one nightstand might not be the best way to go. I would move it back to outside the headboard area. I think where the headboard is noticeable as far as being too wide is at the bottom, where the baseboard and wall are visible, and you can see the holes to attach the headboard. Here's what I would consider for now. Look for a single curtain panel with the top ties that is about the width of the headboard - you can probably find a beige or white one inexpensively at a place like IKEA, or even at a resale shop. I would tie that panel to the headboard, one tie per section, on the bottom horizontal piece of the top design area (right above where the vertical bars start)Tie it one so that the curtain hangs in front of the vertical rails all the way to the floor. It will likely be too long, so you can shorten it by hemming, or using the iron on hem tape after cutting it off at the right length plus a couple of inches for the hem. A shower curtain would work, too, by just using pretty ribbon through the hook holes to tie it on....See MoreUpholsterd headboard? Or upholstered bed?
Comments (14)Thanks, all. Lots of good food for thought. And those are some beautiful rooms and beds! My DH actually said he would build me a headboard, and I designed it. He bought the quarter-sawn oak, and some burl for some inset spots . . . and it has all sat in the barn for two+ years. Even after I have TWICE cleaned up and organized the barn for him so he can easily do the work. So, I think I'm looking for an easy stopgap of some kind so I can get rid of the sleigh bed, but not have a bare bed in a room like I'm 22 years old. Because who knows when that headboard will get made, but I don't want to make it look like I've given up on him, KWIM? That and we're having a new mattress delivered Thursday and when I saw that headboard on CL I was giddy at the thought of getting it all done at one time. Oh, and the CL headboard is fairly new -- part of a moving sale. But I understand the issues with buying used upholstery....See Moresmalloldhouse_gw
