We're at that place in between, cool in the morning. Good reason for a warm beverage. Sun comes out and heats things. Today, it got to 80 (overnight was 57) but the clouds rolled in and so the back of the house is not cooking as it usually would. No heat, no A/C. At least for the next couple of days.

My Grandfather was a painting contractor from the 50`s to the mid-80`s. I`ll bet my Aunt threw out MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in vintage decor, such as drop cloths, ladders, metal buckets andbrushes after he died. (LOL) BTW, I used to play `ice cream parlor` in his garage...all the wonderful pastel splattered paint cans and mysterious painter supplies. I would put on his overalls and caps, too. I probably ingested pounds of lead paint chips...might explain why I`m the way I am today. LOL

I wasn't talking about the color - which probably indicates a need for fertilization* - as much as the firmness of the leaves. Dig around in the original soil ball or mass and look at it before you decide the plant is getting enough moisture. Moderate, but FREQUENT watering is needed for a period from 3 to 6 weeks for plants grown with good nutrition and in RootMaker® containers with air-root-pruning to extend fibrous roots into the surrounding soil far enough to be ‘established’. By contrast, it may require 12 to 24 weeks or longer for plants grown in conventional plastic containers to reach a similar level of establishment. WHY? Because once a soilless mix is removed from a container it goes from holding adequate to excessive water in the container, abruptly, to holding very little water. Water is pulled away from the container growth medium and into the surrounding soil very rapidly due to the greater capillary attraction of the small pores in the soil compared to the large pores in the container growth medium. The way a timer works is this: You thread the timer onto an outside faucet at the side of the house. The timer has usually one and sometimes two separate outlets that you can screw a garden hose onto. The garden hose leads to your oscillating sprinkler or whatever you have on the lawn. You turn ON the water at the outside faucet by opening the valve all the way. The timer prevents water from coming out until the timer programming calls for water. The battery powered actuator opens and allows water to flow as programmed. I would NOT recommend trying to hook an adapter up to your sink and out the window while you are not home. You house pressure is probably upwards of 65 psi and it is very possible that a small leak could develop at the tap...leaking for 4 days and 4 nights. I wouldn't risk it. What kind of house doesn't have a hose bib outside? That sounds like something not built to code. Are you SURE there isn't one out there. Second point. If I'm leaving for the entire summer (javiwa) I would similarly be very careful about leaving one of those units on for months at a time. First, at $30 they are built kind of cheap. I have one and used it for a new lawn, but I was home every day. Mine developed a leak that had to be fixed or it would have flooded the lawn. I also found that I had to adjust the program after a few days because it was too wet. I would only do what you are planning if I had a neighbor or friend who will check on things every couple of days. Back to anoukq: How have you been watering your lawn with no hose bib (outside faucet)? Whatever you are doing, I would try to get your friend to do instead. He could possibly keep the lawn in OK condition by watering once a day thoroughly at minimum. Of course we don't know anything about your climate or type of grass so it is hard to comment beyond that. If you are planting a cool season grass anywhere were summers are hot, you lawn might not make it through the summer anyway. Fall is a better time to seed, as you may well know. Bottom line: no way I'd leave my kitchen sink faucet on for 4 days without anybody in the house in case of a very possible problem.
