How will these look in 10 years? 20?

I'm thinking I maybe should have staggered them. They are all roughly 15' apart and 5' from the fence. From right to left is an Arizona Blue Ice Cypress, Monterey Cypress Donard Gold, Leyland Cypress Goldfern and a Green Giant Western Arboritive. The Green giant gets about 5 hrs of direct sunlight while the others get full sun.

add about 50 more minis.. and it ought to be sublime.. lol ..

seriously.. its a nice start to a collection ... otherwise.. they are just some soldiers ..

the GG is about 15 feet too close to the fence.... but who cares..... its the neighbors ... remove the duplicate leader.. no matter what it ends up looking like.. after such ... it will recover ...

you will do a lot better in places like google images.. if you start using the latin names ,,

I'd be tempted to maintain the view of the two green beauties across the rear corner fence. They don't have to be yours to enjoy them. :)

Can you look upon the canyon as an investment? A place to go in those times when you don't need snowshoes to get in and out of it? But still know it's there for when you can? If you don't need the liquidity of a bank, it's still your asset and when you no longer need it, your children can keep it........or turn it back into money when you're not around to grieve the loss. We have some beautiful country here too. Not the type of beauty you have there, but still beautiful and wild in a different way. When you've lived a good part of your life in those surroundings, it seeps into your blood and finds its way to your heart and becomes part of who you are. Even if you live in the heart of a city, it's still there.

That will be an extremely large/wide tree. Firefighter suggests 'Taylor's Sunburst' however it's going to be as wide as P.o. 'Aureospicata'. Nice tree though. You might check Porterhowse Nursery for Chamaecyparis nootkatenis 'Sparkling Arrow' as it will probably be available later this year. That meets your dimensions. You should go to the building department after you talk to a qualified licensed landscape contractor he could give you some specific violations if any and suggest solutions like some fast-growing bamboo or something to block the lights. The cost of growth sometimes is painful, try and embrace it maybe the new owner will want to share in the bounty of the citrus?, also they are entitled to do as they want on their property as you are. That rule is violating them by where your citrus trees were planted.

No way to improve the efficiency without replacing the entire fireplace. Probably no way to replace the fireplace without demoing the wall, unless these are all installed on exterior walls where you can access the fireplace from the back side. Even then, you would need to find a new fireplace that fits the exact same, or similar dimensions, which is unlikely. I'm sure you can find fireplaces that will generate a lot more heat using less gas, but you are likely looking at a $5000+ investment for each fireplace. So if it costs you $15,000 to $20,000 to save $100.00/month on your gas bill...don't see how that math works out unless you are willing to wait 15 years for your investment to pay off. So the consideration is whether you want to spend $15,000 to $20,000 to get more heat.

whats the plan with the grass .. e.g.... kids need it ... bocci court ... ???? .. etc ..

in other words.. why 5 feet from the fence???

wish i could offer pix.. but those plants.. but for the GG.. dont survive in MI ...

I think you would've definitely been better off staggering them as well as bringing them more forward from the fence. Nature doesn't plant in perfect rows and the whole idea of landscaping is not to plant in straight lines.

10-years from now the Green Giant will definitely already be up against the fence and on it's way up into the canopy of the trees from the neighbors. The blue ice will too likely be touching the fence. The Donard Gold will too. I can't find 'Gold Fern' xcupressocyparis on Google so I don't know what's going to happen with that. Likely it's going to be as strong a grower as the Green Giant or even faster. Leyland cypress is notorious for its fast growth and it's also notorious for homeowners to plant them and not realize how big they become in that short period of time.
