Comments (18)Ilovetogrow, Those are beautiful green anoles you got there. We actually do have ONE species of lizard that lives around here. It is not native. It is the Italian Wall lizard, Podarcis sicula campestris. About 30 years ago, a pet store truck was involved in an accident which resulted in the release of some of these little guys around Hempstead, Long Island. They have since spread around Long Island and Queens. They are quite beautiful, just the size of your green anoles, and I assume they eat their share of bugs. I know there are some on the campus of Queens College, right down the street. I can't see why they couldn't come visit me. I spotted a gravid female and a male under the wrought iron fence bounding the Queens Botanical garden, and various neighbors a couple of blocks away have asked me what "that thing on their porch" is....See MoreUPDATE: Valentine's Day Swap Cupid is out doing his magic!
Comments (119)Hi-- all I just wanted to apoligize for not posting/ getting my package out on time and not communicating well. Tina - I'm so glad your DH is doing better! It's heartwarming to know that love like yours lives today. I vow to stay off the trades for a while as I think I've bitten off too much for me to chew for a while. My apoligies to snyder and gardeningmom - I've been sick with morning sickness, had to leave my job, when I signed up for the trade I thought it would be over by the time the trade began and as it turns out I'm one of the lucky 10-20% who have it for the duration of the pregnancy. Anyway, it's kind of thrown me for a loop along with all the normal chaos of life. I feel just awful for being a bad trader -- I did send -- but not like I normally would (on time, etc.) no more swaps for me for a while - as I don't like to keep you all waiting and wondering. Snyder thanks again for the wonderful package- I'm sorry for not acknowledging you publicly here on the board until just now. Thanks to all my gardening friends and please accept my apoligies for the lateness, and troubles communicating. Hope to trade with you all soon again - once life isn't so chaotic....See MoreWhile the board is slow... lets get to know each other
Comments (45)Hey everyone ~ I'm a newbie. I enjoyed reading your questions and answers so far; hope you don't mind me just jumping in. I've been a lurker for a while, but I finally took the plunge and subscribed last night. (My coat closet dilemma pushed me over the ledge!;) In answer to the above question: I have a talent; I can sing. I've been compared to Irene Cara, Natalie Imbruglia, Paula Cole and Sara McLaughlin at times. (I've also had times that I would've been an American Idol Reject for sure! lol) Singing is a passion for me for sure; I'm luckly to have an outlet for that passion through church. In one of the "do what you love" type things I've come across they ask "what is the one thing you would do even without compensation?" I'd have to say singing/performing would be my answer. I'd sing for anyone, anywhere just for the sheer pleasure of it. LOL I don't brag as a rule; I feel funny saying "I'm a good singer" right out loud. (But we do have to answer the question right?! LOL) Now my question: What's the hardest thing you've ever accomplished by yourself? p.s. I'd love to hear your "passion" as well! Jenn...See MoreHelp me make outside more inviting
Comments (9)I like your idea to have a curved patio type entrance, easier to maintain also : ) You can use potted plants then. I really like to use night lighting so a yard looks just as nice at night as in the daytime too. I also agree about a large boulder in front....takes up space, NO maintenance, looks nice with night lighting and you could have it made to have water flowing from the top for ambiance for the entrance : ) I'd add some small growing shrubs or perennials that flower to add some color. A bit of yellow maybe? Daylilies are nice and low maintenance. If you don't like to weed and water I go with mulch around the rock and perennials too. Not sure if it is common to add auto sprinklers in your area but it helps keep plants alive if you're very busy. If you want ZERO maintenance along the side you could go with a colored stone from fence to sidewalk and put in a few shrubs there to break it up a bit. I agree with toning down the white trim with a neutral color. Also I noticed the window to the right doesn't have shutters, so it looks a bit bare comparing to the other window. Here is a quick mock up. I'm off to bed now, so hope this helps a bit : ) Some visual ideas : )...See Moresushipup1
