Bulb Plans for Fall of 2006
Comments (2)That sounds a lot like my resolutions every year! I never seem to keep them... Right now my resolutions are: Cut back on my bulb ordering (because I really AM out of room for much more) Order early (THAT one I invariably keep!) No more bulb ordering of things to arrive AFTER Thanksgiving weekend, no matter HOW good the sale is. Mark the clumps of bulbs to be divided while they are still in bloom, so I can find them to divide. (I did a LITTLE of that this year--got the Iris reticulata clumps spread out and passed on hundreds of bulbs to friends!) Lisa...See Morefall orders
Comments (3)I placed my Botanus order: Pink Impression and definately more Ivory Floradale Darwin Tulips, they had such beautiful form and lasted a long time. Florissa and Queen of the Night Single Late Tulips Mixed snow crocuses Fall flowering Crocus zonatus..Has anyone here tried these in Zone 1 or 2? They are new to me. Music Garlic...Botanus has a big selection of garlic varieties this fall. Some Mini Botanical Tulips...Turkestanica ( I thought would make a neat contrast to my Daystemon Tardas as their colors are opposite), Praestens unicum, and Pulchella Eastern Star Freebies...Firefly snow crocus, Chrysantha Mini botanical tulip, Anemone blanda I also ordered a roll of floating row cover for next year. If anyone's interested, William Dam Seeds had a lower price and more selection of what length you could order. I didn't see that until I had already ordered from Stoke's though :( I'd sure like to order a couple martagon lilies for this fall. Will likely order from Parkland as well....See MoreAnyone placed fall orders?
Comments (10)I did not mail order anything for fall yet because I don't have the new garden built yet. Luckily, I can order locally through work and have stuff delivered at no extra cost. Plus I can look at the availability lists and choose what I want. Right now it is all trees and shrubs. I am thinking of completely moving the rose alee and putting in a line of thuja 'smaragd' along one side of my fenceline. Nothing does all that well there as the ground is horrible and gets weedy (neighbor has only weeds or bare dirt and trash there). I'm sick of looking at her yard. She hires people who are notorious for stealing to do her yard and other work around the house an I don't need them looking in my yard. I may order a "Julia Child" rose. That is one rose I can't find to order for myself. I need a nice yellow rose that will bloom all season. For my own backyard I will order several: Fosters Holly Savanah Holly Thuja "Green Giant" Nelly R. Stevens Holly Camellia Southern Wax Myrtle gardenia purple pixi and purple diamond lorapetalum (and keep my fingers crossed) variegated pittosporum Ace of Hearts and Hearts of Gold redbuds Sourwood pink knockout roses dwarf leucothoe gold leaf spirea native azaleas buttonbush sweetshrub viburnum Michael Dodge Osmanthus (american) carolina jessamine For next door I plant to order: Stella Cherry Pomegranates Paw Paw Japanese Persimmon an dwarf apple tree blackberries and marion berries pineapple guava more figs I have a LOT of space to cover! Comments (11)Good luck with the Acanthus Hungaricus.(Bear's Breeches) I have been very frustrated trying to grow it,(bought it twice and apparently killed it both times) yet I have seen it growing and looking superb in other gardens. Maybe it is too hot for it here? Would appreciate any suggestions if anyone is growing it successfully. As far as daylilies, I am trying to sell some 40 daylilies this fall to get the garden down to about 650 registered cultivars!...See Morejinnylea
