Choices, choices...fall ordering angst. Anyone else?

I'M. soososososososo excited *tippety tappety tippety* because I earned some extra money to have as a fall budget *yippeeeeee* for flowers and was all set to order some daylilies from hardyhems after seeing Rita's awesome ones...and then realized that for the price of 2 daylilies, I could get my long-lusted after buddleia, primula snowflake, and a bear's breeches .

*sniffle*

I am torn.

I tried to bid on some Davisson items and kept getting outbid so thought "AHA! God is telling me to go for the primula!!" Lol

Yeeks.

Any one else deciding between items this fall?

No, I don't ever buy anything but daylilies for the fall. Well, or spring bulbs. I hope its not me bidding against you on the LA! I suggest the Dale Thomas late bloomers from Hardy Hems. The best ones are not shown on the website (like DANCING WITH SANDRA)so you need the catalogt from Diane.

Oh yes, have a long wish list and short budget! LOL And....I need to keep away from the Lily Auction. I am not going to place any more new bids this year. Anyone want to place bets?

I had a ball looking at all the hardware, too. But, I'm getting some arthritis in my hands and wanted everything I chose to, not only look great with my news cabs and coordinate well with each other, but feel good to use (no sharp edges, etc). I love Igloochic's cool hardware, but most would hurt my hands, I think. I ended up going with bin pulls, two different sets of knobs and one other set of pulls for my kitchen, all in the antique pewter finish. I had the hardest time choosing the right refrigerator door pulls, as most were too thin or uncomfortable when I pulled on them. But, in the end, I found the "perfect" ones and they look great together and feel good to use, too.

Since the kitchen is being totally gutted, the first thing to go is that useless soffit! I don't know why it was put there in the first place (the only thing in it is the electrical for the light). I'm excited that when the kitchen is done I'll no longer feel like I'm cooking in a box! I'll also have counter space on either side of the range- not something I currently have (when I take things out of the oven or off the stove I have to turn around and put them on the island- and I have to plan ahead to have a trivet since the counters are Corian and can't take the heat of a hot pot or baking sheet!) Kevin, I love the idea of the different height cabinets, but my ceiling is not terribly high and the cabinets all go practically to the ceiling to maximize the storage space. I'll have the hood over the range with two 20" wide cabinets on either side of the hood, so the storage will be substantially better than what I have now (but not wide enough for a microwave, hence the plan to put it in the island). The cabinets to the left of the range will have three drawers (top drawer will be a spice drawer- a nice change from the canvas bag in which they currently reside, the middle will be a bread box and a third storage drawer). To the right of the range I'll have a cabinet for baking sheets, wire racks, etc. I'll end up losing my mixer lift in the island (which is very useful) but having it on the counter is definitely less objectionable than the micro over the range. By the way, I was watching "Bang for the Buck" on HGTV the other day and they were evaluating kitchens in the 55k price range and one house didn't have a microwave and that was a huge deal for both people evaluating the house and another house had the microwave sitting on the counter and that was also a huge no-no according to the evaluators. Their recommendations were to build in your microwave or at least have it on a dedicated shelf. So, I think I definitely am making the right decision given my wall space. Anyway, thanks for the advice!

ccoombs1, as all of the above posters have said, you are not alone! DH and I have been going back and forth for months about wood or tile on the kitchen floor, we've decided wood for the past few months, DH installed the sheets of plywood on the kitchen floor to prep for wood floors...and now, after the cabinets and counters are installed, we've decided to go with tile! The primary paint color for the interior...well, let's just say I bought 13 different colors and tried them in different areas before I decided on a color! Then I went ahead and faux finished right over the color, so it changed the end color anyway...but I love it so I'm happy. :) I've gotten better about decision-making as things have progressed, thankfully. Call me crazy, but now I have this little designer voice that speaks to me and she's a big help in my decision-making! When I spotted my granite slabs, she told me in 2 minutes that these were IT. She helped me pick colors for all the other rooms and bathrooms in the house without having to order quart samples first. Hmmm...maybe as minac says, "she" is my coping mechanism? :p

I understand the feeling as that is a problem for me also. For me, it was a concern whether or not my DH would agree with certain decisions. I would ask him questions about his preferences but usually I would not get a straight answer from him. He is a technical consultant for a living and knows how to develop alternatives and discuss pros and cons. However, he knows how to leave enough wiggle room in most every statement so that he is rarely wrong. I had to learn to just move on without him when he did not express a clear preference. About the only item he specified was he wanted a soaking tub so he has a tub in the master bathroom...it has been a few months now and I have been the only user of the tub. He had better decide to use it more than once or twice after all the trouble I had putting together a nice bathroom in the quirky space available.

Good luck with the Acanthus Hungaricus.(Bear's Breeches) I have been very frustrated trying to grow it,(bought it twice and apparently killed it both times) yet I have seen it growing and looking superb in other gardens. Maybe it is too hot for it here? Would appreciate any suggestions if anyone is growing it successfully.As far as daylilies, I am trying to sell some 40 daylilies this fall to get the garden down to about 650 registered cultivars!

My Bear's breeches didn't bloom this year, & I don't know why. It hasn't spread much since I've had it, but looks healthy. Not sure what variety I actually have, it is very thorny like, maybe spinosus? It seems to handle heat well here, I don't know how our temps compare, but July & August usually see mid 90's, & often see over 100.

Hmmmm, I'm glad I brought this up, because I don't want to spend $18 on a plant that gets grumpy or won't survive. :(
Rita, do I just send Diane an email asking for her catalogue?
Floota- good for you for paring down. I never really pare down- I just switch out plants I don't love thinking I'm making space, then fill it with another plant (or five) lol

I've just ordered DL's for this fall actually way to many DL's I am getting a little better at shovel pruning though hope I can keep it up.

With the DD in a new house, wanting flowers, it is relatively painless to pass some on...and make room for the new ones!

Nice, Kay :) I'm still deciding, but if I go daylilies, I'm hoping for a Davisson, Ace of Hearts (your inspiration), or Watermelon Luminosity and Virginia's Heart.
