Any reason why I can't freeze this?

This is part of a recipe from Aug 2016 Bon Appetit for a sweet polenta pudding with ice cream and what they call a plum marmellata (with a note that it can be made with any stone fruit). It's the marmelata part I'm asking about:

3/4 c. sugar

1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

1/4 tsp kosher salt

4 ripe plums, cut into 1/2" pieces

Bring sugar, lemon juice, salt, and half of the plums to simmer and cook, stirring occasionally until mixture is thickened and some of the fruit is starting to fall apart, 10-14 mins.

Mix half remaining plums into marmellata and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, but still holding their shape, 5 mins. Remove from heat and mix in remaining plums.

( I would think that the remaining fruit would soften in the freezer, but I can live with that.)
