I don't recall if it was a structural thing (load bearing) or cosmetic, to "anchor" the display area to the rest of the wall. It looked really nice, and I think would be perfect for this area. I don't remember the episode. It was probably Designed to Sell, which is on at lunchtime here and the only time I am likely to watch because of the time of day. IÂm pretty sure it was one of their "fix it up to sell it" shows. It might be the show with the British guy (Clive?) as host. I think I remember the show ending with an open house, and people oohing and ahhhing over those shelves. IÂm not sure about how to search their website; IÂve had problems tracking down shows. As far as the angled table: we always had to turn the table around for big dinners and extend it into the foyer. But I wouldnÂt want to compromise my daily environment for the sake of occasional events; and take out the walls just for that. Someone (usually me) is always squeezed in the corner, no one minds. We also serve buffet style rather than having the serving dishes on the table. That saves space for seating and place settings....See MoreNeed to transform 3/5 wall cheap wood paneling in family room
Comments (4)What are the walls like above the paneling - are they textured? The easiest fix I can think of is to cover the paneling with paintable wallpaper. You can get it to match your upper walls or get some with a different pattern. Lowes carries them in the store and that stuff goes up so fast. No one will be able to tell there's paneling under it. Comments (3)The plan separates each living space with access from a central hall. It would work well for an office building but not so much for a house especially f you plan to entertain. I find that trying to make a good plan out of a bad one is usually a waste of time and effort. Its like renovating a house that hasn't been built yet. Decide what you think an entertainment space should look like and develop the house around it. But I would not design a house around an occasional use. The interrelationships of family members should be the dominant theme of a house. And I would never put a level change in a living space unless there was an alternate wheelchair route. If you plan to entertain, the front door should have wheelchair access too. An accessible half bath would be good too....See MoreFamily room ideas, wood paneling removal and fireplace updates
Comments (2)Um, if you want you can paint the brick white and put a wood shelf around it. You can also put a wood shelf on the fireplace to help brake it up. My neighbors did this and it turned out beautiful! They also added bookshelves around the fireplace....See Morearcy_gw
