The one thing I will comment on is if she has AVAST currently on the pc set up and running well and it is updating and taking care of business then I would leave it well enough alone. If she were to try to now install some other AV program then AVAST would have to be fully removed first not a task I think you would allow her to do on her own and there would be no need to undertake that if she has a good working AV. Plus if this is an older pc resources may already be stretched and limited and using a resource hungry AV like Norton will definitely stretch her resources much more and that is not a good thing. Free AV like AVAST and Microsoft Security Essentials are absolutely fine and are highly recommended. However a malware remover is a different program which is why I suggest using malwarebytes, superantispyware is also a fine malware remover both free. A good layered protection is the absolute best protection you can have. I am a comcast customer but don't use my comcast email account. Outlook express is no longer supported in newer versions of windows it is about to the end of it's life span and it is a good idea to go ahead and move on from it to something newer. Hi, maggie Thanks for the further explanation. FWIW, I tried creating some things on my Outlook calendar. See this image. I have tested this several times and, as far as the 30-day view, I will only see 3 items on one date. The triangle will appear if there are more 'below.' Then when I click on the day in question (Wed.) I get this page, where I do have 4 items listed at the top. Is this the page where you say you only see a few of the items that you have scheduled while others are hidden somewhere ? Or is it on a different page ? The only reason I'm still a bit confused -- besides, of course, the fact that I'm 'not2bright' ;-) -- is that I only see the triangle on the 30-day page. On the 'one-day' page, no matter how many items I add, I still see them listed at the top of that page. So I'm wondering which page/view you are at when you see the triangle. :-\ (Btw, I added these test events by double-clicking on 'Wednesday' on the 30-day view and filling in the information. Doing it this way adds them to the list at the top of the page on the one-day view. But if I go to the menu bar at the top left and click 'new' and then click 'appointment,' the appointment scheduled will not display in that list of events at the top. It will instead display somewhere below that list, in the hourly listing. Could you be creating different kinds of events that affects where they are visible on the calendar ?) Anyway, perhaps based on the images of my test calendar you can clarify a bit more where you're not seeing all your events listed. :-) Also, FWIW, (following owbist's suggestion) I've added below a link to some YouTube tutorials on Outlook Calendar. You might be very happy using Google's Gmail system. It has all (or most) of the features of Outlook including email, calendar, contact book, and other little applets. It was made to compete with Outlook. Many companies use it as their internal system, yet it's easy enough for any individual to use. ellie, I need a high speed connection, faster than DSL can provide, because I type very, very fast..............just kidding. It's really nothing exotic. I need a robust up-link capacity (about 5 megs) for Slingbox use. Slingbox is a hardware and software system that allows watching my TV (both live and previously DVR'd programs) over the internet in HD quality from anywhere. DSL usually can't get to much beyond 1 meg or so, that's not nearly enough. Also, cable (and fiber optic where available) can provide more down-link capacity than DSL, essential when you have a household of multiple users (kids) all trying to stream something video-related at the same time.

I agree with Snidely, it is easier for a novice user to use a MAC than a window PC. MAC OS system and interfaces implemented/used by its applications are a lot more elegant, efficient and user friendly. MAC's hardware and software are less "open" than Window's, therefore, it has a lot less virus introduced by applications and less compatibility issues between OS and Applications. I like the 'almost' seamless integration among all the apple products/devices. In spite of having an IT division to support, we frequently have PC issues at work. I purchased my first MAC for home use in the summer of 2014, so far I have encountered zero problem. "At home with our computer nerd dad we were free to experiment on our own and get really comfortable with computers from an early age". YOU may not remember how much your parents had to pay to clean up your computers. While our children grew up we also highly encouraged them to have "hands on" experience. We are computer nerd parents working in Engineering, and with Computer Science degree, yet we still paid dearly to have 'professional' to clean up our children's virus infested Window PCs many times. For MAC new users, Apple's one year support program is a great deal. During one year, the new user could use it as many times as possible by attending trainings, group learning sessions and phone in questions to fully learn the system. The support is many times better than the technical support provided by any PC sellers.
