Why can't I grow a simple ivy plant?
Comments (10)I think this condition happens to everyone, just with different plants. Mine are the spider plant and the pothos variety - everyone goes on about how easy they are, but not for me! As for ivies, you'd hate to hear my stories. I've overwintered them to plant out the next summer, usually taking cuttings in the fall. Last fall I ran out of time, so I just ripped the very bushy single stemmed ivy out of it's pot (dirt flying everywhere), took the scissors and clipped the 12" length roots down to about 3" to fit in my little clay pot (limited for space here) kept in a bright spot without watering for 3 or 4 days, watered well and stuck in the south window to grow grow grow. Soon it will be time to clip off some cuttings, and I've got a well established momma plant to put out to. I have an orchid that did not bloom for 4 years straight, so I made the decision to 'chuck' it, and thought about it hard for several days (since it was a gift - and I always feel bad giving up on a gifted plant). Set my mind and set about to do it, and as I am walking to the garbage can my eye catches something, what is this? New root? NO! This could be a spike! So I gave it another week to prove itself and yes, it was a spike and it's been in bloom for nearly 2 months, so it gets to stay. Maybe try some evil thoughts with your ivies, let them know they have to earn their keep, no free ride. Worked for my phal orchid and me!...See MoreSears carb choke issue!
Comments (19)Also, the Honda GX200 is 200cc's. My lawn mower engine is the Tecumseh LEV120-361523A. The 120 after the LEV stands for 12.0 CID and that's 200cc's. So I doubt the Honda flange is the same as, or even close to the Tecumseh flange, as well as if the carb would fit the space. I guess I will just have to head out to a local "generic" mower repair shop and ask advise and to see what the Honda carb looks like. Heck, if they have a bunch of used units sitting around with a manual choke and of the right engine size, eyeball what I can and measure everything that looks close. I modified the hell out of my compressor with a condenser to pull the moisture out of the air before it gets to the dryer and then the main tank. In CA moisture was not an issue as the air is so dry, but out here the humidity is so bad my air tools spit water all the time, and the air tank can fill up with water fast. I also made an adapter to fit a new pulley on the tapered shaft of the pump so I could get rid of the crappy ribbed belt to add a V belt. OH, and the Toyota muffler welded to a section of flexible SS exhaust tubing and mounted to the new handle (damn thing was so loud)! And a real handle, not the crap thin wall tube that was stock and lasted a month! Why not modify the hell out of the mower? New carburetor and a quiet exhaust!...See MoreMini rant and question - What do you pay?
Comments (21)Yeah, not really my idea of 'living' either, dlm. I can't imagine spending all those hundreds of dollars a month for all this stuff. I used to pay $155 for internet/VOIP/cable tv. I thought that was an outrageous amount to spend on these things! I also have a cell phone strictly for emergencies that costs $25/mo. I've since switched to a landline $17/mo (only $8 for the landline but another $8+ surcharges). I need this for security system/fire, incoming calls, and power outages. I use Google Voice (free) for all outbound calls (usually works just fine though certainly not as convenient as just picking up a handset). Switched from broadband to DSL which is half the cost at $30/mo. It usually seems to be faster! As for the tv, it's not something I really enjoy or want to spend my time on. I will use the DVD player when I want to spend my time watching something really good (once I get it set up). Or read, play music or even watch select shows that are available on the net. I am however paying $22/mo for the antenna service at this point (the digital box and indoor antennas I tried aren't working very well). I think I'll be getting a roof antenna installed to rid the monthly fee for that expensive service. I am also changing over to a $100/yr prepaid phone card for the emergency cell (has a $1 daily access fee when the phone is used). So, $8-$10/mo for that instead of $25, reduced by $200/yr. So, down from approximately $180/mo (ridiculous) to $78. Hopefully $56/mo in the near future when I've got an outdoor antenna installed. Boy that sounds good. More like the old days!...See MoreMore Wedding Questions.......
Comments (94)Update: they've decided against the resort for lots of reasons, some logistic, some esthetic, mostly they just couldn't "see" a wedding there in their respective mind's eyes. That last is probably the most important qualification or lack thereof.....I think DD was looking for a place that would make her say yes, this is a place I would really like to have a wedding, and that would make her want to have one We have backed out of the planning/ viewing / discussion process. We told the couple we would give them X amount of money to do with as they wish and have offered an engagement party here at home in the spring, probably May. I think they will likely just elope in early December. Last night some of our city friends hosted a dinner party in honor of their engagement. It was lovely amd DD and DF enjoyed themselves very much but have strongly discouraged or simply refused all other offers of parties, luncheons or showers. Much to my mother's disappointment!...See MoreUser
