sorry to say...but with things like burgers and brats...you will need pretty close to one of each for every adult. Yes you will have leftovers but better than having someone who wanted a brat not get one. As far as quantities of other stuff... My rule of thumb is 5 pounds of potatoes fixed any way will feed 30 people. And that rule holds fast for potato salad, mashed, scalloped fried etc etc. For the slaw....that's harder because slaw shrinks when it stands. Figure 1/2 a cup per serving...many will have more but many will take less. I figure one big head of cabbage...about twice the size of a soft ball, will serve 30. For the sausage and kraut, have 1 sausage and 1/4 cup of kraut for each person. Veggies?? Have lots...people will graze on them. Chips...a pound will feed 20....have lots, unopened chips will keep. Also if this is an afternoon long party, people will eat more over a longer period of time, but if you are meeting and people go through the buffet line then clean up the food....they won't eat as much. Freeze the strudle after cooking. You can make the potato salad the day before but I wouldn't boil the potatoes any before that....the cabbage is also a day before thing. I suppose you could shred it 2 days before...but it might brown at the edges. Nah....don't cater it....home cooking is better! Hope you have help with the prep....sounds like a great spread. Linda C

Alisande, I read your article and have to admit that tears were running down my face about halfway through it. And now my throat has that stabbing pain from trying not to cry. It was such a beautiful story and you told it so well I almost feel like I was there. I hope you can go to the one coming up and write about it again. Reunions are such nostalgic events and a lot of fun, too.

I sure am sorry. that on top of all you have going right now that you have a sick baby too. If you need help from your family, don't hesitate to ask them...Don't get yourself down sick too. I know you can't do this right now...but when my babies were sick..I always made a bed on the floor and slept there with them...If they even moved at night I knew it and was awake to check on them.And if they got sick during the night it saved the carpet...(I covered it with blankies...lol) I hated having my babies sick. Then even when my kids got a little older and sick, they would ask me to make the bed on the floor and sleep with them. And I did. I loved sleeping on the floor. I quit making beds on the floor for myself when I found out , that living in the country , there were a lot bigger spiders than in town....lol When the gkids come...I have 4 inch foam mattresses, they make beds all over the livingroom floor. Even before Jeff moved back home and took over the upstairs, they would sleep down here. I guess I taught them my old habits. Sounds like your Reunion was a huge success.
