Advice please--I hate my new paint!
Comments (37)With that much invested, just wait. Try some of these strategies like lighting, adding accent colors and stuff to the room. Live with it a while. If it doesn't grow on you, then decide. Money is too tight for me to hire a repaint. I've had three experiences to relate. One day while I was at work, my dad painted a room for me in my new home with a color I had carefully chosen beforehand. Got home, saw pepto bismol but no way was I ever going to be able to repaint right away due to dad's pride and happiness. I actually joined this board way back then posting for advice on how to tone it down. You can tone down a color you hate by matching it with similar colors close in tone. That's what I did with my room. I never loved it, but it became tolerable, maybe even pleasant. Second instance, my landlady went paint shopping with me and helped me paint my back bedroom. She bought what I thought was a baby poo color for her own bedroom. Even after painting it, I wasn't in love with it, but once she got all the furniture and the matching bedspread, and art in there, I must say it looked FABULOUS. Like a total different reaction from me from when I saw the paint chip and sample on the wall. It related so well to everything else in the room it was a fabulous choice. As for myself and my back bedroom, I LOVE my color on the walls, but my carpet makes it skew blue and I wanted more grey. I'm also not in love with it with my furniture. I like it though, I can live without perfection. It is so much better than the wall color was before, and it is adequate for what I want it to do. In fact, I wanted the color to do so much that the perfect color may not even be out there. My expectations were a tad high. I say, make do and then if after a while it just makes you unhappy all the time, then if you have the time and money, repaint. I lived with carpet and wall color and wallpaper in my master bedroom for 12 years that I hated. We called the master bedroom "the aquarium" because the teal carpet and trim was so cloying. But we had so many other projects to do at the house that room never got its makeover. Part of the reason was the previous owners painted all the trim a teal color and it had a LOT of trim, including a bay window and seat and folding closet doors, all teal. I worked with it as best I could. I had a "Miami Vice" bedroom, lol!...See MoreMicrowave inside pantry or under counter - will we hate it?
Comments (20)We rebuilt our existing pantry to include a space for our microwave. It's just a shallow closet (about 18-inches deep), not walk-in. We pulled out the old pantry and drywall above to create a space that went nearly to the 9-foot ceiling. We replaced the original door (a standard 36-inch-wide, 7-foot-tall door) with three sets of double doors. Below the second set of doors -- just slightly lower than counter height -- we have an open shelf: that's where the micrrowave is. It's a bit out of the main traffic path of the kitchen but only a few steps away from the main activity zones. We debated putting the MW behind some kind of doors (either swing up or down) but decided we use it often enough -- probably 3-4 times a day, mostly for reheating -- that having to open doors each time would be irritating. So far I'm loving not having the MW on the counter (where it was before). And access and usability have not been a problem....See MoreI hate my new cabinets - help with counters
Comments (25)I do love colored cabinets. Sorry you're not getting what you want. I wanted white too, but we are just too dirty around here. What I wanted to say is that if I'm not mistaken, svelte sage is the closest match to Farrow and ball's French gray. There is a kitchen that all of us love with a french gray island. This is one of my favorite kitchens ever and if there is even a remote chance that yours looks similar. I think you'll be very happy! They used wood (not sure if you're interested in that) and it looks beautiful. That thick wood top is sooo pretty! Actually, the other wood doors are very similar in color to the ones you picked out with a golden something or other granite on the tops. I think that marble would be gorgeous if you can handle the pressure if it. :) There are some quartz tops that look very similar. You might try that. I'm not sure if I'd do soapstone (though would be pretty too) if you're worried about darkness in the kitchen. Try not to worry too much. I know the whole process isn't the greatest. But, the decisions you've made are very pretty and classic to your home. It will be stunning when it's done! Here is a link that might be useful: french gray- allison's...See MoreI HATE budgets! Comments (6)i may be wrong on this but my granite place listed fantasy brown as a marble. you may want to check any lighter granite for etching as a lot of "quartzite" are marble. moon white is very speckled with garnets spots so not like the cambria. obviously marble would look like the cambria. not many other granites looks like marble though. i think super white has that look but it also is pricey. why don't you start visiting some stoneyards to see what speaks to you. i have dark cherryish cabs with blue ice or antartida granite. it is a lot busier than what you want but has that creamy background...See Moreanne Brook
