Ichiban Eggplant

Hello, I'm a 1st time gardener & have a couple questions. We planted an Ichiban Eggplant in June and it currently has several eggplants on it. They are quite large but lighter in color(see photo). I'm not sure when they are ripe to pick. Can they be light in color and ripe? Also, do they appear glossy enough? Thanks.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I happened to come across this discussion on the vegetable forum, which has photos that look like your eggplant. Since it seems no one reading the Texas Forum right now has grown Ichiban eggplant or they would have replied, maybe the vegetable forum would be a place to ask.

Yes that beautiful eggplant is ready to pick. When you cut it you can
see the seeds, and if tender the seeds will be small and white in
color. As it matures the seeds will harden and change the color to
brown. I usually pick them when they are tender than this and it will be
tastier.

By experimenting you can find out when to pick them so that they are the tastiest. Enjoy,Chitra

they are not over mature, they are only 2-3 inches long at moment and just starting out. i usually cut em off when they get about 8-9 inches. they were fine in the morning, just must have missed the plant watering when i left for work. just dont know if the lack of water affected the fruit and if it will return to normal. i guess i will see next few hours

That does not look like an Ichiban to me, more like a Ping Tung. But yes it is ready to pick.
