Comments (9)(Cross-posted in other Miele Steam Oven threads) We bought a Miele DGC 6800 Combination Steam Oven (non-plumbed) and a few months later on a whim descaled the unit. Right after the descaling process, my Miele steam oven gives me a 'Fault 20' whenever I try to do steam cooking. The regular convection cooking works fine. Wish I had something else! It's out of warranty even though we probably used it about 20 times. Comments (8)Unless you are going to do just plain steaming a lot, go with stream combi oven. It can do what a stream oven can plus much more in combination mode. Your range will require water connection, so it is worth it to also get a plumbed combi steam oven. It is quite a lot more convenience not having to worry about filling in water and drainage. Combi cooking is what people are praising for its wide capability to do different things to your food. I cook Asian cuisine and use pure streaming mode all the time. A plumbed model makes it more convenience with a lot of streaming activity. I also use a combi mode a lot, both for actual cooking and reheating. In terms of cost, think of it this way. If you put in a pure steam only and rarely use it, and compared with a frequently used combi steam oven. Cost per usage over a lifetime will be easy cheaper for the combi. For majority of people who has a combi oven, it had become their go to oven due to various reasons: faster heat up time due to smaller cavity; reheating meals; or just for the actual usage of combi cooking. Pure steam oven may be a better choice if combi mode is not of your interest, and you will do a lot of steaming. Comments (27)Not sure if you’re still looking for feeedback, but just in case, about 18 months ago I renovated my kitchen and went with a Hestan 36” rangetop (5 burner/no griddle), and double Miele wall ovens - Combi Steam XL (plumbed) and convection (also plumbed - burst of moisture feature). Also ended up with a Sub-Zero PRO36G refrigerator. Blew the budget for sure, but couldn’t be happier with these choices. Amazing appliances, all of them. The Hestan rangetop is absolutely awesome to cook on. I never thought I’d see myself with a closed burner system, but with Hestan, you get the best of both worlds. Amazing power, the gentlest of gentle simmers (that hold), and so much easier to clean. Anyway, let mee know if you have any questions. Comments (13)Not sure what poster above is saying about hating a steam oven? I would ask her exactly what model she owns. Most people that make comments like that don't own that particular thing/appliance!! And why get a steam oven only, when you can get a convection/steam oven and have perfect baking and steaming. Were you asking me about using the steam function? I can only speak for my Miele CSO experience. Of course, there is a learning curve when using a new appliance. You overcook something the first time and then adjust the timing the second time around. No different than with any other appliance. Even microwaves can vary quite a bit in their power and you have to make adjustments. Lots of info on the Miele CSO in the Kitchen forum. Those of us who have the units, really like them and usually say it is the last appliance we would be willing to give up....See Moresherri1058
