Need advice badly! What should I do about my countertop?
Comments (88)So glad that the OP posted and that everyone else commented. Am just at the beginning of a huge remodel. My first. In the past I've only bought houses that were "ready to go" or "good enough" and did not even imagine that I would be able to go to the fabricators and "OK" the slab before cutting. This lurking on websites is part of my research, so thanks to all who gave me some good stuff to read and learn. I have put "see slab at fabricators" in my "countertop" file front-and-center to make sure I don't forget to do that, whether I purchase quartz or granite. This is extremely helpful information for newbies. FWIW--the blob was hideous, mostly because it was not conforming to the rest of the counter top pattern. Blobs in other patterns/styles look "fine" because the slab is full of them...and that is the POINT of that particular slab. not with this one though...it was not conforming in size or frequency....See MoreWhich fabric looks better; or do I need to repaint:(
Comments (29)By painting the room tan I decrease the colors in the room. The floor is a natural oak color, the desk is a live edge walnut, and the cabinets are IKEA Laxarby (very dark brown). I feel like I have the tans covered;) I love color and will keep some version of blue on the walls. It is a peaceful room with a great view of fields and trees. I probably will go with the current color on the walls, oil the stone, and do the Duralee. It was fun to read the comments on the piles stone (ETA what is a piles stone? I think I must have meant oiled stone). Thanks so much. Thanks for the link to the pricing. I will take that figure to the design shop and see if they will come close to the price. I don't need the cheapest. But I like a little competition. I feel the need to support local shops! I had the greatest sales help there....See MoreTile Countertop, Strangely-Sized Undermount Sink, What Should I Do?
Comments (3)The answer is no, you can't make that not look weird. The solution is to replace the countertop and then tile it. Remove the existing countertop and cut plywood. Then apply thin tile backer and tile. That way you can install the drop in sink that you need. It's still cheap and doable by DIY'er until you can have it professionally done. BTW: I did this with 24x24 granite tile and it looked great when it was done....See MoreWhich Cookware Do I Need?
Comments (32)'stumpy' lol. ^^so agree about multi use pots and pans. Choosing decent quality and not too big will be used more than heavy 6 quart heavy enameled. No purchase has to be expensive if patient. A dozen quality lifetime kitchen members,(pots/pans), collected over time by watching sales and yard sales...avoiding trash disposables like teflon and chipping ceramics... I purchased a new roasting pan a few years ago. New wall oven. Heavy duty lifetime purchase. Stainless steel. Use it all the time. Smaller than the beast I used rarely. The old one was teflon lined, (what was I thinking)...too big for many things. My new one can be used for lasagna, casseroles, roasting veg and chickens. Quality sheet pans for so many things. Non stick lined sheet pans will be garbage in just a couple years. Enameled cast iron gets heavy over 4-5 quarts. I have a six quart oval but works in another oven. Many google searches have basic 'must have kitchen pot/pan' lists. Hundreds of them. When we travel we rent homes. Love shopping markets and cooking locally. Most often crap pans and cutlery. No issue... just make the best of it. Rather not struggle at home. Dealio fine when in challenging kitchens....See Morewhiteleghorn
