Shipping USPS - A Cautionary Tale
Comments (8)I've shipped many pkgs via Priority mail using the e-mail notification feature. I've received many more but am extremely fortunate in that we have the nicest mail lady, Tina. Being in the country, she delivers via a mail vehicle. Knowing how to butter up people, I give her an ARS rose calendar every year and often leave rose blooms in floral tubes in my mail box for her. When we get a package, she brings it to the door along with the other mail. If she knows we're not feeling well she'll bring our mail to the door. I ship roses and on one occassion a little water leaked through the box. I had taken it to the post office to ship and the counter clerk noticed the wet spot. She helped me repackage it right there. I've lived in smaller towns all my life with post offices that employ people who know of me and my rose hobby. I'm always treated well and they seem to go out of their way to assist me. Fortunately, I've never had an experience like yours. If I'm not going to be home, a note in my mailbox and/or on the door will get any package and the mail delivered to my neighbor's house....See MoreLooks like I was ripped off within USPS
Comments (2)Randy, back when we used Netflix, the 2 times that a movie wasn't delivered was when we had our mail held while we were away. Apparently while holding it, they helped themselves. Last Christmas, I was sent a package from out of the country. It couldn't have been better packed, yet the USPS beat the heck out of it and broke the contents. Unfortunately, it wasn't insured, which they probably would've given me the run around about, anyway. I personally like UPS better. Julie...See MoreNew twist on 419 Nigerian Scams
Comments (24)I had a car for sale two years ago on craig's list. I had a scammer of some sort contact me via email. At first they seemed to be making legitimate inquiries about the car. The person said they were representing someone in England, who wanted the car, and they were buying it for them here in the U.S. to be shipped back to England. Then they said they wanted to buy it with a cashier's check but the amount would be over the purchase price and I would need to send the difference before shipping etc, etc. Since this was April of 2005, the scam was new at the time but I still knew it was a scam of some sort. I researched it online on the FBI's website. Sure enough, there were big warnings about the new scam. I reported this person but never heard anything from the FBI. However, they didn't use an international address. They actually used the address of a bed and breakfast in michigan. But the phone number they gave me always went straight to voice mail. And when I called the B&B, they had no idea who that person was. Since the money was to be wired to them instead of sending it to the B&B, I think they just picked an address at random that seemed legitimate. They weren't planning on getting any mail or money at that address. But having a U.S. address made them seem more legitimate, I suppose. One of the things that made me curious at the very beginning was it made no sense for anyone in England to want to buy a used car in the U.S., especially a gas guzzling Ford Explorer. So big for a country with such narrow streets and sky high gas prices. How much is the equivalent of a gallon of gas there? Isn't it around $6? And plus, the steering wheel would be on the wrong side of the car! Anyway, I never did tell the guy that I'd busted him. I wanted to see if the FBI would catch him. But they didn't do anything. No one ever contacted me. I did find an article at the time in the Chicago Sun Times on this then new scam. So I emailed the reporter to give him the details on how they'd tried to scam me. He emailed me back and I forwarded him the emails. I thought at least a reporter could make use of the info to get the news out....See MoreUSPS new stamps!!!!!
Comments (27)I pay all my bills by check. I like having that record on paper. I also have started making cards on Walgreens website using my own photos and they have become a big hit. I recently had the great fortune to share the life cycle of a butterfly with my 11 year old neighbor. He got such a big kick out of it. He saved the caterpillar and we watched as the chrysalis formed and then eventually got to watch the emergence of the butterfly all captured on my iPhone. So I took a bunch of those pictures and made a thank you card from the butterfly to the boy. I mailed it to him. Not only did he get personal mail but now he has pictures of our great adventure. He took a video using my phone too and I sent that to his mom so he could see that. He's a great kid....See Moremama goose_gw zn6OH
