your plant in water has many stalks ... i would propagate one or two .. again in water... but once i saw roots ... i would plant them in media ... this would be called.. cutting your odds of failure.. if you plant the water one.. and it dies ... once they rooted into media... i would just get rid of the water one... or make more ... xmas is coming.. you could probably have a half dozen to give away ... you are in a box of wondering what to do with one ... make more.. and dont worry about winning the lotto on the one ... ken ps: i wouldnt be surprised.. that with small cuttings.. you could skip the water.. and sow small pieces into a tray in a baggie [mini greenhouse] and root them direct into media ... perhaps after the cuts dry a bit, so they dont immediately rot ... maybe even youtubes on google?????

Lucky Bamboo that have spent their whole lives in water may reject soil. Not sure why. Also, my experience is that healthy plants make this transition better than distressed plants. If you want to grow in soil you may want to start with new individual stalks that have not spent years in a rock and water arangement. Make sure you use a container that drains. Start by packing potting soil(I use Miracle Grow Moisture Control) in the bottom of the container leaving about 3.5 inches of space to the top. Set your plants root system on top of this layer. Do not push the root system into the soil. This will make the roots point up. Roots want to grow down. Then pack another 3 inches or so of soil on top of the root system. Lucky Bamboo like packed soil. Keep the soil moist but not saturated with water for extended periods of time. Some drops of Green Green fertilizer may help. Sand helps drainage as well as a layer of rocks at the bottom. Good Luck

I moved my two lucky bamboo plants from water to an 11" (I think) pot of Syngoniums (reg soil and perlite) where the soil is always moist and had no problems at all with the move. I did cut the long roots back that where in water to about an inch before planting in soil. Billy Rae

The Dracaena genus has provided some of the sturdiest houseplants available today, including the every-popular D. deremensis.
