Your opinions on this rug and my plans for the DR
Comments (17)I like the Ikat pattern but then I love lots of pattern layered together in a room. That DR (one of my faves too) has 3 radically different patterns standing out in the room & a 4th on the chairs, so if you want that feel go for the pattern. You've already determined that you would like to use a solid grass cloth so that's taking out 1 of 3 bold patterns in the inspiration room. For me #2 is too sedate for the look you're going for. Don't get me wrong, option 2 and solid grass cloth will still look very pretty put just not following the same almost Bohemian Farmhouse feel of Sarah's room. My pick would be the Ikat #3. It's really pretty! This post was edited by TheFoxesPad on Sat, Feb 22, 14 at 21:31...See MoreBuilding a 'small home', would like your opinions!
Comments (39)Not sure if you are calling the original plan A or if the first one modified is Plan A. I will make my comments about the two modifications. I like the FIRST modified plan, except I think you need to move that bedroom door for "girl" down the hall. If that child is not a person to clean their room nicely, then that will be about the first thing that visitors see. Guests can see the door to the bath in that one, no mistaking whether it is in use before they get to the point of turning the knob, cuz it shows if open. I do like the two baths back to back, for economy in plumbing. One day down the road, you might consider putting a little powder room where that laundry room closet is. You have the space available from the garage area. Now, I notice in both plans that you have a pair of double doors at the back of the garage. Do you have a riding lawnm0wer/tractor to drive in that side? Is that going to be walled off from the car parking spaces? Looks really good, and that area can be reached from the far end of the deck. Your deck is quite sizeable, so if you are looking for any space in the living room, a really short bumpout. However, that would involve roofline changes and also no straight wall through the LR and garage which might be a load bearing situation....See MoreWould like your opinions on my floor plan...but
Comments (20)Again, thank you. I've rethought a few things and will have DH work up the new plans and repost them on another thread (incase anyone is interested). If I keep the island as it currently sits, I can have a nice long, maybe 18" deep, counter where the fridge currently sits. I plan to move the Fridge to the area you all suggested which means the island will be less of the "barrier island" you pointed out. I plan to get the GE single oven (but 2 ovens--I posted a link somewhere) and will put them under the counter----I will swap the sink and the range. I think having the sink closer to the fridge makes more sense. The oven(s) will then go to the left of the range (not directly under it so it is not hot if I am cooking and baking). I am starting to lean towards all wood counters because I just think they are so gorgeous. I"m still not sure about cabinet color (cherry or buttercream) which means the wood counters are TBD (cherry, maple or Wenge). I adore stainless but we may have to build long distance and I just worry that the added expense and interface with getting it done may be problematic. It may not be, but I'm a worrier. If I keep the current table/island, I think the "T" will be a nice juxtaposition versus the parallel, but maybe not. I guess when I post the updated info, I look forward to more input. I guess my last thought was if I get the long bank of counter against the wall where the fridge is in the posted design, should I keep with wood or add a "pop" counter like Marble or solid surface or something.....or stick with all wood? I'm still not sure we will get a prep sink. I'd thought this could be a "wet bar" type area, but maybe leaving a prep sink on the island (if we get the prep sink) would still be a better option. Thanks to those of you who have read, suggested and shared your ideas thus far!!!...See MoreSo I bought 7 rugs...now I need your opinions please.
Comments (32)We swapped the rugs, Gold went to the living room and my DH is happy. He likes it better there and so do I. The color looks less orangey. And the size is good for that room. The silver rug looks 'OK' in the DR but is really a bit too blue for the DR and the fabric I've had for windows. It will be perfect upstairs in my snore room however when I get to that project so both are keepers and will work fine as place holders. Busybee3 - I would keep the table at the round 54" as I only do larger 10+ sit downs a few times a year. I guess I really think of the DR divided into two sections a 6 X 16 hallway and a 10 X 16; as that side is where the table lives, and the light fixture is placed accordingly. I do not want to center the table to the room as that would be trickly for walking to the kitchen. What I consider the hall is really part of the room and will have the buffet placed there. The other walls will have a china cab and server. For now I will have the silver rug placed where the large gold rug is in the first picture, but I will try with out a runner for awhile. Not ideal but will get us by to move in - While I keep my eyes peeled for the perfect rug....See Morelynetta51
