If you remove the door stop, you can reposition it on the jamb - to accommodate a thicker door. If you don't have the space - you can rip the door stop down.

You will have to extend the hinge mortise in the jamb.

I replaced all my doors with 6 panel doors. Took off the old doors - numbered them, and set them out to a mill work shop - and they mortised and bored the doors.

Unless you want period correct,modern 13/8ths doors should work with a little alteration.

This is a crazy idea, but if a door mill had a wide belt sander (which door mills would have) they could pass a door through enough times to bring it down by 1/8.

The caveats: The door would need to be solid wood, no veneers. The molding profile will be altered. This would not be an issue with a shaker style door (no molding).

I think yo have two reasonable options:

- Get custom doors made. I'm doing that for my house now - but I'm making them myself, so the cost is not an issue. Unless you have a lot of woodworking experience, or know someone who does and is willing, it's an expensive option.

Second would be to move the stops back a bit. I did this for a friend on their 1920's house. I routed the wood back about 1/4" on each stop. Not simple, but not super hard either.
