Comments (8)Thanks for all the input gang! Banana, Some of my plants came from high country gardens, but the best plants I've seen came from Kelly Grummons at coldhardycactus.com. He sent amazing plants when I ordered some for my school bed. some of the echino's had two barrels in each pot, and the inermis, which is awesome looking, had six babies around the base. My first agaves came from High Country. One of them came loose and was beat up in shipping, but they told me to plant it even though it looked bad and they would ship another to replace it... both are alive and well, even though it took a good year and half for the beat up one to recover. I probably have close to 25 different kinds of colorful opuntias. My favorite is Mesa Melon... it looks like it glows when in blossom. My problem is that when I started into hardy ones, I didn't think I'd have many survivers, so I planted things rather close..... I have to expand my bed or build another, because I've only had one casualty, and I think that's because I had a bruised barrel on one of my echinos. Yesterday I filled an old fashioned wheel barrow full of Opuntia engelmanii and O. albispinus. They grow huge with pads usually around a foot long. I will post some pics this summer....See MoreTalk me down from my ledge... ;)
Comments (8)Manhatten, Can you please clarify why you would run from me? I am not trying to be a difficult client so if there is some different way I should be going about this, I would like to hear it. bdeck, I get it, you reminded me of some of our issues. On the spec sheet the builder specified a 4 inch deep 20x20 slab outside of the garage, only our garage is 32 feet wide. When I asked about it I was told that they just needed to redo a few things then. There were multiple issues like that. It took 5 requests to get a drain in the garage added. brickeyee, the unlimited changes were to be free from charge. The design phase is $2000 and included designing our house with unlimited changes. I asked clearly that no matter how many times I come and change it. They agreed, that was all in the price. They were clear that the changes may affect the price of the build, for example changing for bigger square footage, more expensive finishes, etc... but all changes made before we move to the next step (and contract) were included in that $2000. I am fully aware that several of our changes will increase the cost of the build, which is not the problem. My concern is that even though he repeatedly (and in the contract for this phase) said that there were no charges for changes made to the plans at this phase, he then changed and said there would be charges for more. If he's willing to do that, then what else are they going to try to change later? pps, it is a fixed price contract....See Moretalk me out of it!!
Comments (17)Oh Meg....you HAD to tell me this. Well, if she can come to Oregon, she's got a great home! We tentatively agreed to keep Teesha when her people were moving and needed her cared for for a couple months. She'd been chained (!!!) for most of her life and we were told she hated cats. We had cats, but hated the idea of her going to the pound, especially if she was as non-socialized as they claimed, so we figured our cats would be smart enough to stay out of her path. She was with us one day and I could not stand the chain, so we took her off it. The next day I took her for a walk. From that moment on she was my girl. She didn't hate cats...poor baby was chasing them to play with them! She was a gentle giant, and no matter how hard we tried, she didn't want to live in the house. She'd come in and visit, but preferred her dog house. But she was NEVER chained again. We'd take her and Howard to the park for walkies and she was sooo proud to be out. People were afraid of her (she was BIG) but she never pulled or was hard to walk, she'd walk sweet so she would get lots of hugs & kisses. We calculated her age...we were told she was 5 but we figured she was at least 7, and had been spayed at some point. The POs really didn't want her, and were glad to relinquish her to us. One day we noticed she was getting thinner, but we first attributed it to the exercise. Then we noticed the tumors. They came FAST and she went downhill quickly. Our vet said it was probably liver cancer and there was no real point in chemo. So we waited as long as we could stand it and had her put to rest. She licked my hand as she went under, as if saying Thanks Mom. DH and I loved that girl in the short time she lived with us. We know that the last 2 years of her life were her happiest and she sold us on those big lugs of love....See MoreTalk me off the ledge...I hate my backsplash
Comments (49)I just want you to know that I'm still holding my breath. It took forever, well, three days, for the tile guy to finish with all the tile. Grouting is today. Amy, I will do pictures soon. Oh, yes, I can't wait. In fact I would have done some pre-grout photos this morning, but the lovely SF fog is back. Without lights, the kitchen looks really dull and dreary. I'm afraid the photos will just be a dark blur. I've got to say that I've learned so much from this remodel. I went into it ultra-prepared. I had all my materials. I had even hired a designer to give the final okay on everything. He was incredibly expensive, but I thought with something this new, I needed someone to make sure I was making all the right decisions. Well, once those horrible counters (yup, the designer okayed those) had to be scrapped (as well as the backsplash tile purchased to go with those, as well as all the paint colors, as well as the design concept which is now at the 11th hour having my cabinet maker do new uppers and bookshelves in wenge), I learned that kitchen remodeling is not for the faint of heart. The best decision I made was to hire a fabulous contractor. If I had it to do all over again, I probably would have skipped the designer (it cost me thousands just to have someone say okay to everything I considered). I found GW rather late in the process. I just found Houzz last week! I would have spent more time on both sites. You see, I have stepped away from the ledge. I'll post pics of the backsplash tomorrow...I hope. And I hope it is truly fabulous and perfect. And if it is not, I plan on putting things on the counter so no one will notice. Yes, I'm starting to feel that this all should work out....See Morebunkfree_4a_canada
