Endless Summer blooms after winter protection

Both of my Endless Summer hydrangeas were protected by a chicken wire fence packed with leaves last winter. This spring I cut the front one's stems off as they looked dead. The back yard one had new growth on many of the stems.

Here are the bloom results this summer.

Front bed in full afternoon sun, 2-2/12 feet high. First blooms

Back yard hydrangea, morning sun; afternoon part shade, 3 1/2-4 feet tall, pure pink blooms for weeks

Deer have eaten some of the blooms from my other hydrangeas but the ES have never had deer damage.
