Comments (9)Hi Plllog! "That is, I know it's possible, but might not be in your budget." See, there's the crux of it. This little beverage center idea of mine was not in the original budget. (Nor, alas, were new drywall in the livingroom and halls, the gorgeous walnut top on my used cabinet island, the matching gorgeous top that will soon be on the new media cabinet and the near full gut of the bathroom.) And we're still determined to get through remodeling our ugly duckling without taking out a loan or dipping into savings. Conventional wisdom says: Wait until the coffers are full again but that's so hard to do. First off, I'm a cheapskate. Even if the goose who laid the golden egg waddled up onto my deck and built a nest, I'm not sure I would willingly pay someone to mess up the walls I just paid to fix. Second, I'm not quite cheap enough. My new kitchen is starting to look pretty good but, gosh, it would look so much better if the microwave and coffee maker didn't take up so much room on that one counter. I'm willing to spend a little bit more to change that, especially since I'm going to have a piece of countertop leftover that should be just the right size. Still, it's nice to know that it's possible. Maybe when the coffers ARE full again I'll put a tile counter outside on my deck to shade the golden goose should she happen to wander by ;) Thanks for your help!...See MoreI don't know what is wrong with my basil plant.
Comments (2)It looks like it might just be sunburn or nitrogen burn to me. I'm assuming you've not shown the undersides of the leaves because they look normal? Are you wetting the leaves when you water/fertilise? To be honest, I don't have much experience with diseases on basil, but I used to wet the leaves when I first started gardening and they quickly burned. It looks similar to what I can see in the photo....See MoreJade Plant, no idea what I'm doing. Don't want it to die.
Comments (7)Yes, get all of the old soil off the roots. It may be difficult, looks like it is peat that is hydrophobic. It gets as hard as a brick. Pick it with a bamboo skewer or chopstick, shake off whatever you can. You may have to soak it in a warm water, hydrophobic peat is very difficult to re-wet. Once you get the soil off, see what condition the roots are. Some will break off with soil, some may be totally dry & dead. Cut all damaged off. Let it sit on some kitchen towels to soak off any extra moisture (Iif any, after washing). You need to get potting mix that doesn't have so much peat in it. Simple & easy is to get some Cacti&Succulent soil, and a bag of perlite. Mix these 2 in 50/50 ratio. You could use pumice instead if available. Pot the plant in this mix, if you had to cut some roots off do not water for a day or 2 to let cuts to callus/heal. Do not overpot. Maybe use a terracotta pot that is bit heavier if you worry about plant tipping. You may have to secure plant until the roots establish themselves - using few big rocks around stem may be enough. After couple of days, move it into best light you have. What is your general location or growing zone? Let plant recuperate for a while. After, I would do some serious pruning......See MoreMissy
