Looking for predators from behind the sock. As I watch the goldfinch, they are always wary; taking a nibble only after looking in all directions.

While it's a long shot Marcia, it could be a 'Pardon Me' daylily. Looks a lot like the one I had! In sunlight and in drier places the crimson wasn't all that red. In shade and well watered it was a deep, dark beautiful red, much like your photo.

That is the place where it happened. The animal had climbed up a tree within the enclosure, and worked itself to another tree and then just dropped in with the visitors. So got freaked, and others took photos. The animal was tranquilized and returned to the enclosure. I really hope it happens again, it will really increase attendance.

Is the first one "Old Man's Cave"? I went to Hocking Hills several times while growing up. First on family trips and later on school-sponsored overnight field trips. Just from memory I recall the name's of a few of the attractions: Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Cantwell Cliffs, Ash Cave, and if I remember correctly 2 other named areas. I was always slightly bothered by them being called "Caves" since they are to my mind simply overhanging cliffs.
