What are your storage plans for your master closet(s)?
Comments (68)I love seeing your closets!! We have his and hers closets in the master, and I'm not satisfied with them (and we haven't even moved in yet). Our trim carpenter suggested a simple layout for rods and shelves, which looks great. Then I asked for shoe storage like rows of cubbies (meaning get more shoes in less space). He put in a slanted shelf along the baseboard. He was so proud of it, I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wouldn't meet my needs. Now, I'm kicking myself because I'm too wimpy to insist that he rip it out and redo it. Also, the floors have been finished now. I'm to the point where I have to pick my battles. Anyway, our best storage plans for our master are to de-clutter before moving in and to keep as much as possible in our huge cedar closet (for out of season clothing and shoes)....See MoreCovering top half of closet only - need ideas please
Comments (19)The shelves on the left will have baskets to hide most of the stuff. Like I said, we just rearranged. Each of my kids has a cabinet and the open shelves work well for them for now. I'd love it if I could have doors on everything. That said, I don't think leaving the door off the closet will work for me, even though I know it's the easiest option! I think I will go with second easiest and just get a tension rod for curtains. I'll play with tie backs and curtain lengths and post a picture when I figure out what I like. Thanks for all the feedback!!...See MoreBroader discussion re: closets Vs. non-fixed storage solutions.
Comments (22)I like a mix I saw a walk-in closet first time in my life when I first came to the States. I thought it's kinda neat)) When my late Grandma did her first and last remodel, in the eighties, she "borrowed" space between two rooms (we had three altogether, and it didn't go by bedrooms like here)-and that's how we had two big, not walk in but still quite big closets. That was neat too. It was a nicely sized apartment but we were six people there. Everything was very organized..had to be. But we had lots of free standing pieces..say my and my brother's clothes all except for coats went in a small wardrobe, and the wardrobe wasn't in our room, but in a different, bigger room, where Grandma and Grandpa slept. Books, we had in every room. We have a lots of books now too-but to be honest, it's but a small percentage of what we used to have when I was a little girl. One can't compare. In short, I still find the concept of built in closet pretty neat)) But I love free standing pieces too, a lot. I think the right mix gives one function, form, flexibility and beauty. So I go by that. Except for the garage..that's my DH's kingdom..and he abhores the thought of ruling there too..:) but doesn't want anybody's help as much as I beg. He thinks closets help, shelves help, this or that surface will help..no, nothing will help..I will help if you let me:) The concept is important, but it can't be fully functionable and enjoyable without people handling it, you know....See MoreNeed help with bedroom arrangement and closet storage
Comments (8)Definitely no room to angle in a cabinet and we're about 2 feet short to move the bed to any other wall. The shoe cabinet could go into a closet and even though it would take up floor space, we could fit more shoes in there that way. The large art piece has lived above the bed in another house and looks great but we were planning on hanging sconces above the bed and that would result in the canvas hanging too high. Will probably take them back- the bedside tables we're going to order are 24" wide so have room for table lamps. I think I'll move the smaller chest where everyone advises but it creates a new issue- too much wall space with just the chest and chair. I suppose I could put a small round table next to it? I have a lovely painting that has always loved above my dresser but would have looked terrible with the two chests together. The cats are going to be crushed after we've unpacked. They're loving all the boxes!...See MoreMaureen
