Bed has arrived! (PICS- w/ new paint) Need bedding help :)
Comments (30)Okay- let's talk bedding. I have spent hours searching (online and in stores) and I keep coming back to the RH bedding. So I went back to my store today. They were out of about half of what I needed and wanted so I ordered it (w/ free shipping) and I should have it ALL by the end of the week. Here is what I decided on. 1 King Duvet Cover in the 18th Century Medallion (in link above.) Pacific, so it does have a hint of blue. 2 Matelasse King Euro Shams in Fog (also linked above) 2 Lumbar "accent pillows" in cashmere.. one for each sham. I brought home 2 colors- a gray and an icy blue and need to choose. 1 Matelasse coverlet to act as a blanket- will be between the duvet cover and sheets. ***bought in Eucalyptus which is an icy blue color. The salesman talked me into this and I an really second guessing this for 2 reasons. #1- $179 is a LOT of money for a blanket that might not been seen. I could find a blanket at HomeGoods for $39 that would be fine. #2- *if* I stick w/ it, should I exchange it for Fog (color) so it matches the shams?? I really like the pop of color, but let's say, in the summer time, I decide to let the coverlet show more... wouldn't I want it to match the shams? Or am I trying to be too matchy-matchy??? (a problem of mine.) Wdyt??? Solid choices? I do need to get a king, light weight duvet on order. Any recs? I will go ahead and link the Matelasse coverlet again... *if* I keep the coverlet, should I switch to Fog? wdyt? thanks! Here is a link that might be useful: RH Matelasse...See MoreThat was quick! Comments (122)Suzie, I replied on the other thread. I think you will find that the linen does soften beautifully but you might like to press them at least the first couple fo times you use them. The pillowcases are quick to press and I remember reading something in another context about an initial pressing helping set the way the fibers will lay. Maybe it will help the fibers in your pilowcases lay smoother. But they will soften up....See MoreHow often do you change your sheets?
Comments (90)Up until recently our sheets were flown to Iceland where they were sanitized in a 170 deg. F geothermal pool, dried in glacial air, pressed with a lava mangle, then flown back to us. That got expensive three times a week. Nowadays we wash them for an hour, spin them out and dry them in a hot oven before hanging them outside between two birch trees. Occasionally we'll let them sit next to the reactor for an hour. My mom used to dry sheets (all clothes, laundry) outdoors -- even in icy, windy January. The sheets and towels would be as stiff as boards until they "dried". They would be fragrant of fresh air and saltwater cove. Sometimes they would stay overnight on the pulley line. One spring morning we awoke to the bay and cove smelling of smelts. Of course the laundry on the line was redolent of smelts as well. Sound awful, but, although I wouldn't want daily laundry smelling of them, smelts don't smell fishy at all (neither does fresh fish, btw). They actually have a very clean fragrance. Smelts were all over the nearby ledges and shore -- stranded there when the tide went out. Pogies in July? That's another matter entirely. I love the bird and dog/s in the bed....See MorePercale sheets on bed. Ready for tonight :-O
Comments (18)Roc, my mother was like yours, imacculate organization..even in her dish pan, she always hand washed dishes and after rinsing in hot water she put the silverware all in the hot soapy dishwater on the right hand side all facing the same direction and heaven forbid anyone put a fork or something in in the wrong direction. She also had us as kids remove our towels from the bottom, very carefully so as not to disturb the neatness of the upper towels. She vacumed the carpeted living room daily but she liked the lines the vacume sweeper made on the carpet and got rather irritated when someone walked over her freshly lined carpet..we used to joke we needed a hover board, even before hover boards were heard of. I find myself often thinking of my mother when I do something the way she did and I think oh my I've turned into the greatest woman that ever lived...lol. I try hard to have a clean well orginized home, but its not perfect and never will be LOL. Roc I would love to see you open a textile business, what beauty and perfect linen you would produce.
