Comments (13)It was a lot of fun doing this table. Jeanne, that Egyptian looking queen may be a king. I have three different ones like that, I thing they are Egyptian revival trinkets. The little Oscar was I had made for DS when he was a little guy taking dance lessons, the quote is to "the star of our lives". OA, I see that flatware every so often, I bought that at an estate sale, it is from Siam. I bought two sets totaling nearly 200 pieces, I gave DS one which he sold, I wish I would have known you then. Thanks Punk, I'm gonna wear the leaves off those palms dragging them around for tablescapes. Jane, your right about the piercing blue eyes, I just usually don't enjoy war movies. Luvs, I didn't even have to paint the mannequin, that is her original paint from the 30,s complete with "cootie garage" hair-do. I've added some pix of some of the items in their regular places at my house. Comments (18)Yet another P&P spin-off will be hitting UK TV screens this Autumn with a new series Lost in Austen. The story line appears to be . . . our modern day heroine is a big JA fan and finds herself able to go back into the world of P&P. But will her knowledge of the outcome of the story alter what takes place in the world she has entered? Also look out for yet another TV adaptation of Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Many of the outdoor rural scenes were shot in my area. They wanted a realistic 'backwards' landscape. :-) Pity I didn't know it was happening, maybe I could have got a part as an extra playing 'an aged crone' or 'third hag'. Another Dickens series is coming up, this time Little Dorrit. Last year Bleak House was beautifully produced. Some of you may have seen it....See MoreFrozen: the Worst Movie Music in History?
Comments (58)The little girl next door discovered "Let It Go" a few weeks ago and has been singing it outside. All. The. Time. Unlike many of you, I actually like (or at least liked) the song, but heavens to pete is it overexposed. My daughter has been receiving musical instruction in school including reading music. She had vocal music in K-3 and strings (she plays violin) in 4 and 5. She's signed up for orchestra as an elective in middle school. I think the music program was primarily funded (possibly entirely funded) by PTA fundraising and by grants but it's been great. I sing in a church choir and until last year was also part of a small women's ensemble that sang monthly at retirement homes (we went on hiatus when my director fell and suffered a head injury--I'm afraid now that we're never going to resume. I learned to read music with piano lessons as a kid, but it was also taught in elementary school music class. And then I was in choir all through junior high and high school (and a bit in college). I went on a road trip with my daughter earlier this summer, and when we first got on the road I thought she was going to want to listen to nothing but top 40 the whole trip. I made a case for listening to country in the areas where that was 90% of what was on the airwaves (there aren't many country stations where we are from). We also listened to some classical, some religious choral music, some 80s power ballads, and a bit of metal. One of the things that drives me crazy about many young people is their rigid conviction in the superiority of whatever narrow set of music happens to be on trend at the moment (this bugged me even when I was a teen). I'm happy to have a kid with eclectic tastes (for now, anyway; she's not a teen yet)....See MoreSectionals...like/dislike & why...
Comments (32)I am embarrassed to admit this, but in our primary residence we have 4 sectional sofas. Our living/dining room has a high end sectional from NC. We have oriental rugs, oil paintings and antiques in that room as well..it was just a challenge to find a sectional that would fit that style. Our family and rec rooms have leather sectionals. Our sunroom has windows on three sides with views of the back yard and future plans to open up to our kitchen. This is where we spend most of our time, and where our friends hang out with us as well. What I love about sectionals is, you can provide plenty of seating in large AND small areas. What changes with sectionals is back height, arm-size/style (or lack of arms), number of pieces and configurations. You really have to do careful room planning to be sure it will fit in your room properly. If you have friends/family over, consider how much seating you'll need. This will help you determine if a sofa would be sufficient or if you should go the sectional route. Oh, I want to add, you should always look for hardwood frames, 8 way tied spring seats, high rub counts on the upholstery and understand what type of cleaner to use on the fabric as well....See Morejust_terrilynn
