Hi Houzzers! Thanks in advance! This will be my third room to decorate with the help from you all. This is our first home and room by room sloooowly decorating. For our bedroom...I'd like to make it feel cozy, simple, with some natural feel. It's cluttered right now with furniture. My style is a mix of farmhouse, cottage, rustic and contemporary, traditional...guess you could say. I love anything on Fixer Upper show. And we are not fancy people. All furniture stays except the chest in left corner by bed and nightstand on right side of bed. Chest will be moved into spare bedroom. The bed is new...maple wood stained espresso. Dresser, chest(with tv) and floor mirror will not be replaced right now. I'd also like jewelry chest in corner to right of bed to be taken out or maybe painted. Rest of furniture will probably need to be left where it is(I think). Not many options and we like bed where it is so we can see out the door. Things I have in mind are...removing mirror off dresser and hanging some decor above, possibly finding a larger jewelry chest that could sit on dresser, curtain panels, new bedding, floating shelves for bedside(there are trays that pull out on each side but want something more to sit stuff on), maybe something to throw shoes in(if I have space), and thought about laundry basket in each corner. Just some thoughts. I've asked my husband about colors...and he'd like it to have blues and neutrals. A slate type blue or similar. Not bright blue. Would like solid blue quilt/comforter. The long walls are approx 15' and short wall with one window is just over 11'. Think I've covered most. Pics below. Thanks!

Something's got to give in your bedroom................a few too many items don't you think? Purging is in order. We all have more stuff than we really require.

I would move the dresser to across from the bed and remove the mirror and replace it with the TV. Place the bachelor's chest into the corner and position the jewelry case, (if it's really needed) at the other side of the window. I got rid of the freestanding jewelry chest years ago and transferred the few items I kept to plastic boxes inside drawers.

I would replace the ceiling fan with a white ceiling hugger and place lamps on matching nightstands. No real room for the other black cabinet.

Oh wow, that's far!

I like the room with some blank walls and don't think you need much else.

For comforter you can try down alternative in a duvet and use your current one on top as a quilt. They make them for different seasons and you can get a lightweight one.

Very pretty room. You've done a nice job in finding accessories for your new BR. I have to agree with charlie about the frames tho. Darker, or pretty much anything other than gold frames would help with the pics not getting lost. May I ask what paint color you used? I used SW Blonde in my home (looks similar to your paint color, but yours is a bit more yellow). I have used a few gold frames in my LR. However, the frames are larger - heavily gilded portrait frame, an oil by DH's GF many years ago, and a piece DH and I purchased while traveling before the Blonde. Gold frames are tricky with that family of paint colors. While I think using the runners in a different way is a great idea, you didn't post pics of the window(s) that you need to decorate. I have seen the longer thin windows done with a runner and it looked like a custom WT. I am not a placemat or napkin made into curtain lover either, but I guess I'd like to at least see what your original thoughts were. The runners are pretty and do coordinate with the other colors in your room. How many runners do you have? While I agree they would look pretty on the dressers, from experience, I personally think they are going to be dust collectors. Like the idea of draping one across the bottom of the bed if they are long enough. Also, you haven't picked lamps. Would there be enough of that middle of the runner fabric to do a custom lamp shade? Are you planning bedside table lamps or wall lamps? Just a few thoughts.

Agree on the drapery panels. Not sure about "skimpy", but they definitely clash with the duvet/cover which seems to be a keeper. CAVEAT: I am a big fan of very calm bedroom spaces. Tone on tone, not a lot of artwork that challenges/excites the eye. This is a place to rest, sleep, love. Make it one. Try this: Get rid of everything in the room, except for the furniture. Bedding, too. Lay down on your bed. See where your eyes "rest". Important. Decide whether the paint color is meaningful to you. The color you have is fairly neutral, but looks very different, night and light of day. Paint is the easiest way to affect a very restful space. There are enough colors on your chosen duvet to really get inspired. Unless birds are a complete passion of yours, I suggest no more within art work. Duvet brings interest, but don't let it get too busy. Really look at ambient lighting- where do you need it? Is what you have adequate? Either add or subtract. Mirrors. In any space, but especially the bedroom, you need to consider what they will reflect. Reflection, in a bedroom, can be nice. It can also be very harsh. What will you see? Do you like it? Then just fill in. Start with making your bed like a pro- even once. The way we live is a far cry from "staging", but imagine this as a calm space, designed. Do you need a blanket/throw, in a solid color? And add more. At each stage, think about the space you are creating for yourself. Sometimes, editing is necessary. Art is last. Consider any pieces you have, or go on sites like Art.com and find your bliss, inexpensively. I'm "in this" with my own master, and I know how tough it is. Good luck, and keep us posted.

We would try the artwork across from the bed over a console and then try the lamp by the chair in the corner with a piece of vertical artwork with it. If you have enough space near the window you could try getting a chaise and place a lamp and piece of artwork near it as well.

This is what it used to look like before the hubs decided we needed a change. Still not ideal and I wasn’t in love with it but I liked it much more than what is happening in there now. It’s funny everyone is suggesting darker lamp bases. That’s what I had originally 🤷🏼‍♀️. And either way, that picture in between the drapes must go from that spot. I’m not sure what we were thinking?! The “style” of this room fits much better with the rest of our house, the more modern/Scandinavian furniture does not.

The pics of your room are just plain fun to look at. You need to do before and afters! I think once the decal arrives, the walls might be ok, as you do need some blank spaces for the eye to rest. I like the pillow on the bench!!

Thanks ladies! Let's just wait for that decal to get here. I still need to find pics for picture frames. Hubby got on me about that lastnight. Lol. I have seen some lightweight down alternative comforters I could try. Maybe I should ask hubby first if he'd mind a light one. Otherwise I'll get a wintry throw for myself.

In the mean time hubby built an indoor dog house. But no railing yet. Lol. Dog house is beautiful! Window and skylight cutouts. One of our dogs always sleeps upstairs in back bedroom in his cage. So we replaced cage with house. He has a memory foam bed made to fit on order. Etsy shop of course. I couldn't find a bed to fit interior dimensions properly.

Hubby is very proud of his dog house! He did a great job. Now to get him on that railing...Ugh. I just noticed the picture frame is sideways. Lol. That's a new silver one I picked up for nightstand...which needs a real picture still.

As I mentioned before my choice is a warm fluffy throw for the winter months.. gives a new look. I have a hot hubby too..lol On a road trip for a week. lots of nice throws out now.

Hubby is glad you all like the dog house. Lol. I've been looking for fluffy throws online and I also stopped at Dillard's today. Haven't looked anywhere else yet. Also looked at down alternative comforters. Lastnight we got in bed cold! Even hubby. Anyway, here are three different ones I saw today. All an ivory color. Not sure what color or style to use. First pic is a soft sherpa...on both sides. Second pic is a shag throw. And third is a heavy faux fur throw. And a pic of the bed I took the other day. Thanks!

Love the shag...so cozy looking! No to the faux fur as it has a pattern quite similar to your blue coverlet.Like ivory color.

I thought the shag was kind of cool myself. Has a nice fluff!

S Mistry, I would just use this throw during cold months and the current one on bed for the other.

Hi ladies! I've picked up a shag throw to try in bedroom. This is just being used for the cold months. Thoughts on how it looks? Should I lay across bed instead of corner? Or maybe it doesn't matter. This one came from Pier1. Not the one I saw at Dillards. One thing I'm not liking is it's shedding. And dry clean only(which I can live with). If we like it and I keep....and thoughts on how to help with the shedding stage? Maybe throw in dryer on cool? It is a little thicker than the one from Dillards I had posted. The last pic is the one I saw in Dillards. They're pretty similar.

I like the casual look of the throw draped like it is now on the end of the bed. Looks perfect! The other one could even be folded and put at the edge of the bench, with part of it under the lumbar????? Not sure.

Shedding.....oh, my! Hate to vacuum a throw! I would think a good shake outside and the dryer would really help with that. OR call the store and ask them for suggestions. Maybe you just got a bad one????

Yes try draped across bottom for a look.Cool dryer to see if it helps... if still shedding exchange. When getting another give it a little petting before purchase.. Lol

Hi ladies! I put the throw in dryer today and it seems to be doing much better with the shedding. So we will see! Here it is laid across front of bed like Lainie suggested. I just bunched it up a little. I think my wall decal will be here any day now! Happy Halloween!

Finally back home .. covered about 3000 km in a week... with a bit of retail therapy everyday...lol. Got home just in time to give out the Halloween treats.

Throw looks great. It's quite like mine except a bit shorter shag.On a chilly night I just fold it over in half & use it all for myself.

Wondering how it would look if the sheet was only turned down as far as the nest pillow.

Hi laides! I'm sorry I had no idea I missed two comments. Hope you all had a great Halloween! I'm liking the throw alot. It's no longer shedding and it's already been put to good use. I like idea of turning sheet down just to the our nest pillow.

Anyway, I came on to tell you I FINALLY received the wall decal! It did come with instructions but I feel a little confused or nervous about placing on wall. I think I rub the decal until it sticks good on top cover(sticky one) and then remove the paper back before placing on wall. Here is a pic I've posted before of the area taped off. I'm thinking still place it in that area. I'll hang it with tape first to check it. The birds are for trial I believe.

Also, I think hubby and I would like to start working on family room. I know holidays are coming but maybe we can at least get furniture placement and a new tv stand etc. before Christmas. We also want to paint fireplace, new fireplace door and mantel...etc. Are you all gamed? If so, I'll get take the pics and make a post most likely tomorrow...then post link here. I've been thinking about it for a couple weeks.

Well, for family room I was thinking we could at least get a start on some ideas and furniture arrangement. Take it slooow through holidays. It's an odd setup. But yes we will all need a HOUZZ break when and if we have time for a break. Lol.

My cousin & his fiancee are restoring our great grandfather's house. I have been helping her with furniture placement. Yesterday we had a fun day arranging the Christmas decor. Seems a bit early but her daughter (only child) will be visiting in 2 weeks. She only gets to see her about 4 times per year so having the celebration early.

On Dec. 4th we will all be going on a local Christmas house tour (includes 4 houses) where we will see the houses nicely decorated. Each year it is held in a different community .. raising money for charity. Have been going for close to 20 years.

The wall decal is finally up!! I read instructions and watched videos. It took me awhile but it's up and looks great. Better than in pics. I'll get hubby to hang mirror this week or weekend. What a long wait that was for it to come! First pic is taken straight on from bed.

I did take pics of our family room today but haven't made the post yet. If I get time tonight, I'll do. Otherwise, tomorrow for sure. I wanted to have it up today. But you know how that goes. I'm glad we're all on board...I need you all.

Lainie, sounds like you had a great time. And what a great thing to be able to help family. I'm not sure that we have Christmas house tours around here. I've never heard of them. I'm going to check. I love the idea. I've been ready to decorate for Christmas...anxiously awaiting!

Wow, excellent job.

Would like to see the letter "K" a bit more when looking at it straight on from the bed... so you could just scoot the cotton balls/vase a bit more to the left to expose the "K" & bring the TV a bit more to the left with it... Sorry just being "picky" again. Want you to have the perfect view on your side also.

When you decorate for Christmas will you be adding any Christmas decor to the bedroom?

Ok, maybe time for me to start my Christmas decor plan...lol

If there are no tours in your area maybe you could round up some nearby friends to join you to create a tour in your community.

Usually there are 4 to 5 houses involved according to if they are close enough together to allow time for the visitors to view all houses in the allotted time ( usually about 3 to 3.5 hours (1 to 4:00 or 4:30) An afternoon tea is included in the ticket price ($10) which is held at a local hall. Volunteers make sandwiches & sweets to go with the tea /coffee. All funds raised go to charity of your choice.

Some homes are filled to the brim with decor but I prefer those that have a minimum of Christmas decor which lets the beauty of the home shine.

Being seasoned House tour visitors we have found that instead of going to the tea after all houses have been viewed we do half the houses, then have tea & view the remainder. If you wait till the end there is too much of a crowd at the tea so may have quite a wait .

Thanks everyone! Marymom and Nancy...these ladies have helped me with three spaces so far. They're amazing and know my style now.

I moved the vase and TV to left just a little like Lainie suggested. So we can see the "K" better.

Lainie, yes I'm considering putting some Christmas decor in bedroom. You had mentioned it awhile back. I've seen some items in store I like. I'm waiting to pull all my Christmas out to see what I have. I'm doing my mantel different this year so may have some things from that to use.

I really like that Christmas tour idea and that it's for charity. I haven't had a chance to look online to see if we have anything like that around here. It sounds fun!
