Purple, I've enjoyed reading this thread and wanted to add my $.02 worth. The first thing I noticed is that the stems appear to be flacid.....wilty. That could be caused by over OR under watering.....whichever might cause the roots from being able to access water. In this case, I wonder if the water you're applying is evacuating before soaking the whole soil volume. One thing about these plants (all plants) is that though they need to dry out somewhat between drenchings, the potting soil must be completely saturated on watering day. This is true for all plants, even those cacti that are native to extremely arid regions. Have you ever seen "Medicine Man ", a movie starring that gorgeous specimen of manhood Sean Connery? It takes place in the rainforest of Brazil. There are scenes of my lovely Sean ziplining through the forest canopy, sharing the scenes with huge epiphytic cacti and other plants. Really neat movie. Plus, it stars Sean Connery. I get that it's difficult to understand how those prickly, barrel shaped desert cacti have ANYTHING to do those graceful rainforest plants. Here's what I "think " is a good analogy, but don't laugh at me toooooo hard if it really stinks. Take your dog into consideration for a moment. It's a mammal. So are you and the pesky squirrels in your yard. Big differences amongst those three mammals yet they share essential similarities. Still with me? Now, think of those incredible bottlenose dolphins familiar to anyone living in coastal areas. Superficially, they seem to have so little in common with your dog, but those porpoises are just another type of mammal. They live in a different environment, for sure, but the similarities are much more important than the differences. You just need to try to provide the kind of environment your dolphin needs. :-) Dorie

I purchased one of these Euphorbs in late December from a nursery where it was growing in crowded conditions with low to medium light. I set it up at home in my basement with a 10,000 lux light panel and it has put on about a foot of growth since then. Our basement is usually cool (50-60F) and the plant has had no natural light source. I water lightly about once a week (or whenever the top of the soil feels dry to the touch). I recently moved it to an upstairs room with northern light and the light panel along with it, so it will be interesting to see if there is any change in growth habit. As to the plant being poisonous, as with anything, reasonable caution is generally best - keep it out of reach of small children and pets. No need to be alarmist. Keeping an antihistamine such as liquid Benadryl in your medicine cabinet is usually a good idea, in any event.

Sure. I did it as a stopgap measure over the summer to water the Plumeria grove while we were out of town. Knowing we were building a pool I had our home builder remove most backyard irrigation from the construction plans. Once the pool was done I would have the irrigation company come back and add 5-7 new zones. I guess 5 zones isn't enough to entice those guys because the only thing I can get from anyone is lip service and then they never show up. So this winter I am renting a trencher and knocking it out myself. Probably save $3k and it also gives me the opportunity to multi zone the plumeria patch. I used all Drip brand materials and equipment from Home Depot. While no longer made in Israel it's still to Israeli specs and better designed than other brands. Like most of their stuff its probably longer lasting and can take more of a beating too. In the small grove I laid out a main supply line with a hose connector, anti siphon, a 25lb psi pressure step down and ran main supply trunks every other row. I used compression fittings for corners to keep the hose from kinking. I then ran dedicated 1/4 line to EACH container and placed multiple emitters in some for better coverage. I placed a timer and sediment trap at the hose bib and ran a garden hose to supply the water. I routed the hose to keep it under shade as much as possible. In the Big Grove I ran supply lines/anti siphon/pressure reducer as before but placed the line across the containers. This is where I used Variable emitters directly tapped into the flex line. I then staked the line down and connected to a hose bib and Timer. The variables give better coverage. See below I liked the Dig brand timer because it was powered by a 9 volt battery vs 2 AA batteries. Again...IMO better design. During Dry summer I ran the system for 1/2 hour starting at 9am 4x per week. Here is my current emitter schedule: 1 to 3 Gallon Container - 1/2 GPH emitter (brown). = 1 gallon per week per plant. 5 to 10 Gallon - 1 GPH emitter (black). some of the 10s have (2) 1gph emitters = 2-4gal/week 10-20 Gallon - 2 GPH emitter (green). Some with 2 emitters = 4 - 8 gal/week 20 Gallon + - Variable 1-15 GPH emitters (black twist)> I estimate most of these are emitting around 6 GPH considering volume and pressure. Some may be higher. = 12 - 16 gal/week. These are in use on my large very mature plants which are up to 15 years old. As I use the system I will probably fine tune it and adjust emitters but the above schedule got me through the dry part of Summer. I think there was some waste in the schedule but it will take me some time to optimize. For those that may not be familiar I am in the Texas Hill Country (near San Antonio) where July and August are very hot and often dry. There are some inefficiencies where I can see wet ground around the bottom of the container but still see dry soil at the top. particularly in squat containers. That is why i am adding emitters to better spread the water out and will probably reduce run times. I think the sediment trap and anti siphons were not actually needed in my case. Once they go bad I will not replace them. My Plumeria patch is a continuous learning environment for me. Phase two will be to tie the drip system into the new irrigation system to eliminate the garden hoses and timers. I'll also rework and elevate the supply lines to a network of Rebar supports and PVC pipes which can also be used to prevent plants from blowing over.

lemon lime I don't see organic matter in the ingredients? its mostly peat moss which promix are you thinking about lemon lime? I love it! lol I never thought about it but at a certain point when I was about to repot my large cara cara the large garbage bin did look good lol pots are so pricey now Brian over $100 I think since covid everything plant related has gone up in price its insane! oh Brian your Shasta is beautiful!!! I cant wait for the Shasta gold to fruit mine is still so tiny but going through its second flush now I'm so excited! is it good every single year Brian? Brian ever since I put my trees in the prolix its gone crazy with growth they're halfway to your large trees :) Lol Brian 15 trees my goodness how are you still walking right now! James I actually fertilize every single watering with a little miracle grow I also have some jacks professional fertilizer so I do feed the one in the bark mix although who knows ill get back to you next year I suppose :)
