Moaning 16 yr. old cat
Comments (8)Have there been any changes in your household or routine lately that could explain this new behavior? Sudden changes in behavior for no apparent reason get our attention, and for good reason. It couldn't hurt to make sure the cat is healthy with a vet checkup if it's been a while. Beyond that, I never behavior I don't like. If you run out there and baby her when she does it, you're making it rewarding for her to do. If you ignore her and she's doing it for your attention she'll give up (but you may need earplugs in the meantime). If she's doing it for her own satisfaction, she'll continue until she decides she's tired of it. In that case you might try changing the routine in some way, experimenting until you figure out what works -- like maybe keeping her in your room?...See MoreUpdate on 17-year-old cat
Comments (24)Kitty still seems to be comfortable and content, though withdrawn in comparison with his healthy behavior. I am so torn about whether to give him anything. He's drinking what looks to be a normal amount of water a few times per day, and he doesn't seem to be in pain. He's using his litter box to urinate (a couple of times a day, normal amount) and is able to get up and down the stairs to the basement. I was wondering if I should give him the liquid vitamins, at least. OTOH, the vet said not to bother -- just let him do what he wants. The vet said the ultrasound gives 99.9% certainty that kitty has a malignant tumor, so there's probably not much that can be done. We feel that when an animal so strongly rejects food that it's cruel to force him to eat. He's never been a super-cuddly cat, but he has always made it known when he wants a lap. He purred and acted happy when I picked him up and cuddled him yesterday and then held him in my lap....See More18 year old 5pound cat --should she have 6 teeth removed?
Comments (7)If it has come to the point where the vet determined the teeth need to be extracted it´s better to have them extracted, bad teeth are very painful, also, the cat doesn´t chew the food but swallows it whole or partially chewed which causes malnutrition because it can´t be digested properly. The primary reason to worry here is the age of the cat, better have it done with inhaled anesthesia with either Isofluorane or Sevofluorane....See MoreWe adopted a shelter cat Thursday. He is about 3 years old.
Comments (11)I adopted a male stray who's 3-4 years old and he's been a joy. It took a bit of time, since I adopted him in August, but he's developed his personality and has changed a bit from the cat I brought home. He was fearful of toys and followed me everywhere. Now he goes round 10 with the over-the-door squeaky bird toy I got him and is always fascinated for hours by the Cat Dancer. He's more playful but still affectionate, mostly quiet (except when those naughty squirrels on the deck tease him to no end!) but his personality definitely blossomed during the time I've had him. I found it took him a while to really get into the sisal rope and I had to place scratchers by my mattress, which was his favorite sharpening post, and with treats he now has no interest in the mattress anymore.
